"You look new here."
The newcomer turned from his contemplation of the sky, regarding the old man with a look of discomfort, "Uh, yeah. Heh, what gave it away?"
"You've been watchin' the sky fer the last hour, like ya've never seen a cloud before."
The newcomer glanced at the sky, "It's, not the clouds I'm watching." The old man looked in the same direction. Far above the city was a massive eyeball, long tendrils connecting it to several buildings. The newcomer stepped closer to the old man, "What, is it?"
The old man crossed his arms, "That's Tha Observer. He watches tha whole city, and keeps us protected."
"Uh huh," the newcomer sat down next to the old man, "where did it come from?"
The old man shrugged, "Don't rightly know. He's been here fer as long as I can remember. Fact, I think he's been there fer as long as tha cities been here."
"So, it's just, always been there?" The newcomer looked once more at the sky, "shouldn't there be, like, documented evidence of its arrival?"
The old man shook his head, "Nope. That ain't how Tha Observer works. He looks into us, but we don't look into him."
"Surely there's something? A creature that big, it can't just be, glossed over, like that." He stood up.
"Wouldn't suggest that, fella. Tha Observer's got a nasty way of dealin' with rule-breakers." The newcomer just waved him off. As they walked away, The Observer slowly moved it's pupil to watch them.
The old man leaned back, closing his eyes, "Poor fool. You poor, blinded fool."

Kinda reminds me of how the government and giant organizations constantly watching us day by day, but we don't seem to think about so much cause there's nothing we can do to stop it because we aren't a part of them.
