Description
- Michael Brandon: It was a winter holiday season. All the Skarloey Railway engines on the Narrow Gauge Railway were very busy. Sir Handel was pulling cars of holly and mistletoe from the woods. Duke was taking vacationers to the mountains. And Skarloey was taking a special present to the wharf for Sir Topham Hatt. It was a winter holiday tree. Percy was very excited. Sir Topham Hatt had chosen him to collect the tree from the wharf. He was to take it to the town square in time for the winter party. When Percy arrived at the wharf, it was very busy. He looked for the tree. But he couldn't see it anywhere. Duncan puffed up.
- Duncan: Are you looking for something, Percy?
- Michael Brandon: He chuffed cheekily.
- Percy: I'm looking for a Christmas tree.
- Michael Brandon: Tooted Percy.
- Duncan: Don't you know what a Christmas tree looks like?
- Michael Brandon: Laughed Duncan. He liked teasing the big engines.
- Duncan: It's tall and green and pointy.
- Michael Brandon: Percy didn't think this is funny at all. Duncan called out to Peter Sam.
- Duncan: Peter Sam, Percy needs our help. He doesn't know what a Christmas tree looks like.
- Percy: Of course I do.
- Michael Brandon: Huffed Percy. He didn't like being teased by Duncan or Peter Sam engines. It made him cross. Later, Percy met Skarloey.
- Skarloey: Percy.
- Michael Brandon: Skarloey began.
- Skarloey: The Christmas tree is...
- Percy: ...tall and green and pointy.
- Michael Brandon: Chuffed Percy.
- Percy: Thank you, Skarloey. I don't need your help.
- Michael Brandon: Skarloey was puzzled. But Percy had already wheeshed away. Percy chuffed into the warehouse. Ivo Hugh was there.
- Ivo Hugh: Hello, Percy.
- Michael Brandon: He whistled happily.
- Ivo Hugh: Can I help?
- Percy: No thank you, Ivo Hugh.
- Michael Brandon: Percy tooted quickly. He looked around. He couldn't see the tree anywhere. Percy was beginning to worry. Percy chuffed to another warehouse.
- Sir Handel: Hello, Percy.
- Michael Brandon: Whistled Sir Handel.
- Sir Handel: Can I help?
- Michael Brandon: Percy didn't want to be teased by Sir Handel.
- Percy: No thank you, Sir Handel.
- Michael Brandon: He puffed. Then, he saw it. A long, pointy load on the flatbed. It was covered by a large tarp.
- Percy: I found it!
- Michael Brandon: Tooted Percy excitedly.
- Percy: Sir Topham Hatt will be waiting for this tree.
- Sir Handel: What tree?
- Michael Brandon: Sir Handel whistled. But Percy had wheeshed away. Percy raced out of the warehouse. He had a very important job to do. But he was puffing too fast. Then, there was trouble. Percy took the wrong track. He applied his brakes hard.
- Percy: Cinders and Ashes!
- Michael Brandon: Cried Percy. He heard a flatbed crashed into the buffers and then splashed into the canal.
- Percy: Oh, no! Sir Topham Hatt's tree!
- Michael Brandon: Cried Percy.
- Sir Handel: It's not a tree, Percy.
- Michael Brandon: Whistled Sir Handel.
- Sir Handel: That's what I've been trying to tell you. It's a load of pipes.
- Michael Brandon: Percy's cheeks turned red.
- Sir Handel: Skarloey delivered the tree this morning.
- Michael Brandon: Sir Handel added.
- Duncan: So only he knows where it is.
- Michael Brandon: Puffed Duncan. Percy was a big engine. But he couldn't have felt smaller. And he couldn't have felt sillier. The keyside cranes lifted the pipes out of the water. Percy was worried. It was getting later and later. Percy knew there was only one engine that could help him. And that was Skarloey. He chuffed quickly away. Percy had to find him and ask him where the tree was before it's too late. Percy's boiler bubbled and his axles ached as he raced towards the Transfer Yards. He thought Skarloey would be there. And Percy was right. Skarloey was there.
- Percy: I've been a very silly engine.
- Michael Brandon: Percy wheeshed.
- Percy: I didn't want to listen to you. I thought I knew better than you, but I don't.
- Michael Brandon: Skarloey listened carefully.
- Percy: I need to find the tree.
- Michael Brandon: Percy puffed.
- Percy: And there's no time to loose.
- Skarloey: Of course I'll help you.
- Michael Brandon: Skarloey chuffed.
- Skarloey: Follow me, Percy.
- Michael Brandon: Percy's smile stretched from buffer to buffer. Skarloey lead the way. But Percy puff quicker after him. Sir Topham Hatt will be waiting. Percy was coupled up to the tree.
- Percy: Thank you, Skarloey.
- Michael Brandon: Chuffed Percy.
- Percy: Now I must hurry.
- Duncan: Peter Sam and I are sorry we teased you.
- Michael Brandon: Whistled Duncan. Percy smiled.
- Percy: I'm sorry I didn't ask for help.
- Michael Brandon: Wheeshed Percy. And he raced away. That night, Sir Topham Hatt switched on the lights. They look wonderful. The children clapped and cheered.
- Percy: I may be big, but I can still ask for help.
- Michael Brandon: Tooted Percy. And his smile was as bright as the lights.
