Today the voice of my childhood hero has sadly passed away. His performance as Batman was the greatest one of all time, he portrayed the Dark Knight’s pain yes but also what truly made him a hero. He was able to portray a Batman who truly dedicated himself to fighting for those to who feel as helpless as he did the night he lost his parents. A Batman who always overcame even God Like threats through the power of human resilience but who can also be there to comfort a a scared child even if that child had been the villain of the week. This I think form the times I’ve heard him speak in interviews at a con and in a cameo form him my friend got for my birthday in 2020 came from a very deep place from himself personally. He reflected a belief in the good of humanity and the power of the human will to overcome adversity. In the wake of 9/11 he connected with people dealing with that pain and used the power his role gave him to being them comfort and levity. And in the Cameo I had gotten for my birthday he didn’t just say a famous line from the show and call it a day but connected what makes Batman great as a character to encouraging life advice that, while he didn’t know all the details of what I was going through at the time he could probably guess just due to the toll 2020 took on us all collectively, was really something I needed to hear. Yes Future DC animated projects lost the peak Batman performance which I’m sure newer actors will struggle to live up to but the real world lost a hero as well….
