I've been getting back into Dragon Ball lately and Cell has always been my favorite character, or at least my favorite villain. After buying this model kit of "Perfect" Cell, I decided to customize him into his "Semi-perfect" form. I already had the Dragon Stars Cell which is more accurately proportioned in my opinion and looks a little better as Perfect Cell, whereas this one is a bit bulky and since that fits Semi-perfect Cell's form more, it was begging to be customized.

Since he was a model kit (Bandai Hobby Figure Rise Standard is the line), it was easy to take some parts off in order to better paint them. I started off using some Gundam markers to repaint everything on his body besides his thighs and biceps, his forelegs, the dome part of his head and inside of his horns, and the little black diamond in the center of his chest. I eventually started doing some rescultping with his upper torso and faces. The tail was made entirely from scratch with some aluminum foil and a copper wire inside and covered in Apoxie Sculpt. His tail has a Lego axle peg which goes into a piece with a hole for it in his back. It can be posed in 3 directions though the unpainted part is a bit visible from behind in the left and right poses. At the end, I realized the "Char red" Gundam marker was too red, so I painted over them with orange acrylic paint. I even had to repaint all his spots as black which was easy because this kit has really good color-separation with the light-green parts connecting to a dark green piece underneath with the small spot shapes popping through holes. Once it was all complete, I coated him with Mod Podge sealant.

This definitely turned out really good for my first custom plastic kit project. Aside from the problem with the connection point of the tail being exposed in some of its poses, I really am proud of it. I have thought of buying a second Figure Rise Cell to make 2 more facial expressions and use the tail piece for my next project which will be repainting and retooling a Dragon Stars Cell to be Imperfect Cell, my favorite of his forms. That one is going to be way tougher due to more remolding required on the head and I won't be able to take him apart quite as easily, but I've worked quite well with tough painting on figures in the past. I can do it again!
