Description
Hokay! I was commissioned and requested to do a tutorial. The commissioner paid for simple shading and a simple background, so here’s how I create a piece with those stipulations. Though I did do a little extra, because I felt like it. <3
I hope that this tutorial is of some use. I’m still learning, too, so in a year I’ll probably have new ways of doing everything. I’ve only been using Manga Studio 5 for 11 months, so there are still plenty of secrets for me to discover. If you’ve got any tips, please let me know!

Thumbnails? Lighting test? What are these things?
I have so much trouble with lineart, and figuring out where to have it thick or thin. I rarely ever do lineart. Just about never on computer art.

Thumbnails are quick sketches you do before starting on a larger piece. They help you nail down poses and composition. The lighting test is just a quick shading for the thumbnail I like best. I dunno if "Lighting Test" is a proper term, though.
Inking lineart is my favorite part of drawing. I'm still not as good at it on the computer as I am with pen and paper, but I'm getting there. A lot of it is mentally knowing where to thicken and shade, but it's also very physical. If you're switching up the way you sit while drawing a lot, it might be making things more difficult on you. Because then you're using different muscles instead of practicing with one group.

It's more that my mouse makes my line look like spazzing worms.
EDIT: and let's try putting the comment in the right place, shall we?
