This is false propaganda, again.

False propaganda or not, SOPA was put on ice and with luck, permanently.

Ok so you meant well and I mean no disrespect. It's just very important that people dont start blindly trust Obama just because they put out some desinfo about him being against it, just because it's election time. Very dangerous.
But yes, it's a sweet victory that it's shelved for now!

Kleobis In reply to torasenfoto [2012-01-22 17:35:39 +0000 UTC]
Oh no, I don't trust him and the probability of him using this as an election pushup is higher than the stratosphere, but don't forget, he still is the president and owns a lot of power and popularity, which, if played correctly, can be used by the masses. Life is a game, you need to know how to play each card in the right moment or you'll lose. And Obama is a powerful Joker card.
Either way, right now, we should taste our sweet victory and sharpen our weapons for when they return with new "ideas".

Thanks for inspiring me to help! I've always spoken to people about similar laws here in Sweden but no one really takes it seriously enough. The way wiki dealt with it was a great way to get attention. And so was yours! I'm a close subscriber to your page and seeing this piece yesterday made me sit up all night and contribute by making my own too! [link]

Actually, voting on the bill hasn't started yet. The voting to pass SOPA/PIPA is slated for the 24th. Just because Obama says no doesn't mean congress can't say yes.

It's not on the Canadian news either. It's just not on the news. If you want to know anything important you have to find out about it yourself. News is propaganda, remember that.

I went on the BBC site, its not easy to find and its so vague it doesn't say how it'll affect us... Really strange since America is making a Global decision by themselves...

Yeah, it is. Sorry, forgot the zip code part. Search around for some non-american petitions. Though, they don't need SOPA to attack the internet, what with megaupload already being taken down....

Show your discontent for it happening in another country, so Turkey might not try their own version of SOPA. Most countries don't try things that they've watched crash and burn in another.

Celebhol In reply to BlackSnowWonderland [2012-01-19 12:56:35 +0000 UTC]
Actually it's been happening in Turkey for so long. Our government looks democratic to west but it's actually screwing us. As an example (just for the internet) there are more than 60.000 banned sites and it's growing. Government banned Youtube for 2 years once. They are nothing but narrow headed shits. Has any other country helped us with this? No. Just for once, the Anonymous did something but that wasn't enough. I'm showing my discontent for S.O.P.A. but no one gives a fuck about us. Where were you when that happened? It's like saying "Help us but we're not gonna help you if you need anything because you're not big like U.S.A. you're not important."

BlackSnowWonderland In reply to Celebhol [2012-01-19 21:28:04 +0000 UTC]

A lot of journalists got arrested because they don't like our government and they were exposing the real side of them. Some of them died of sickness in prison. I might be aggressive but it's not your fault. It's funny, you know. Our government was screwing with us and now like that isn't enough U.S.A. government's fucking us too. Megaupload is closed. Fucking great.

Kleobis In reply to Celebhol [2012-01-20 10:51:03 +0000 UTC]
That's just fucked up... but sadly, very true. People only get to know about stuff when it happens in the big boss known as USA. And they're a bunch of hypocritical bastards alltogether! Everyone should have free access to the internet, but they know that if we do, we'll kick their asses. They are smothering the majorities by silencing us.
Although we have so much technology and mambojambo, the mentalities are stuck in the Dark Ages where nobles and the cleric killed and imprisioned those who went against them and their words. We might have fancier cars and stuff, but deep down, nothing has changed.

BlackSnowWonderland In reply to Celebhol [2012-01-19 22:53:17 +0000 UTC]
Stuff like that is absolutely abhorrent. Someone at my school told me that their dad said that if America's government got any more fucked up, they would be moving to Germany. I understand if you are discontent with your government and moving, but if they think we're horrid, they need to hear about how things are going on in the world, like this.

To me, this whole SOPA and PIPA crap is not about 'protecting copyright', but rather smother the ever growing majority's will to fight and push others to do the same. Look at Egypt. Syria. Lybia. Occupy Wallstreet. Spain. Geração à Rasca in Portugal. All that happened thanks to the internet. Because people live a lot more connected to eachother, can gather more information about others and their countries, create massive movements that can and potentially will induce changes. Changes that are not in favour of the rich minority and those who enjoy their power a little too much.
"People shouldn't be afraid of their governments. The governments should be afraid of people." With that in mind, they're trying to silence us because TV and media doesn't work anymore. All you need is one or two nutjobs to start the fire and thousands, millions of people gather to help. That message on Wikipedia is proof of what I'm saying.
Shutting down the Internet through censorship is taking away our freedom of speech, of communication, of gathering knowledge, getting to know new people, but worst of all, to gain support from others when things are starting to massively stink!
People of the USA, you all have the most power because it is happening right at your doorstep! The people of the world support you in bringing this directly to your representatives and government! Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Canada, South America, we're all behind you in this, so step forward and make the world's shout of 'Enough is Enough' be heard!
