Description "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Admiring the Last Supper painting, at the Hvar Franciscan Monastery, painted by Matej Ponzoni-Poncun.
The painter made this work for the Franciscans in gratitude for saving his life after a shipwreck.
Well hell, I like that Last Supper version better! Makes more sense that people are sitting AROUND a table instead of all on one side.
And GREAT shot, by the way. Love the colour--very rich.
are you serious? considering your signature i'd have thought you picked up on it immediately. i'm not a religious person at all and I knew that one. It's from Book of John Chapter 6. a bit paraphrased, well rather pieced together more than paraphrased (the in context one has others talking in the middle of the quoted text). but then again i'm a cracker that reads religious texts w/o believing in them so meh.
lol whats the point reading if you dont believe? and yes i know where its from, i've just never seen it quoted that way. what version of the bible is it from?
if you only read things you believe in then i guess fiction is totally out for you then lol. -_-'' Besides, it's good to know what people believe in, even if you don't. Hard to understand others if you don't make an attempt to see where they are coming from (hence 90% of the world's problems). It's from the new standard international interpretation (not directly mind you, it's paraphrased pieces together to make a whole quote). I've read the bible in various forms, Quran, Bhagavad Gītā from the Mahābhārata, buddhist writings and many others. You don't have to be a believer to read something and appreciate it for the sake of what it is. All these works of literature have had profound impacts on the world. Just as many non-religious writings have as well (think Darwin or Einstein or heck, even Jack Kerouac, he did start the whole "Beat Generation"). I find it amusing though how even in art, people don't realize there were more than 1 Last Supper Paintings. heh, only the Madonna and child and maybe the Crucifixion have had more renditions in that genre.
lol yeh i know xD!! geez looks like i stumbled onto a real reader here, its just i can find the bible tedious to read sometimes, while trying to gather an understanding of what is meant in it. the new international ay? yeh i havent read that one, i intend to one day, but i dont prefer it >.> they edited and changed stuff in it to suit the benifit of mankind more than rather changing what they believed in to suit the previous versions. I personally prefer the new king james version, obvious its personal preference lol.
and yes i know exactly what you mean about finding out about other's faiths and belief's to understand them more. im just not quite as into it as you are >.> you're kinda like wow. xD i cant even prounounce half the words you're talkin with in that last paragraph and jack who :S (i duno who that guy is lol) and yes i realise there is more than 1 last supper painting xD im hoping there is cause there was a lot more religious ppl back then that were more outward with their faith n art then there is now (well where i am anyway >.<
mmm i'd be reluctant to say there were more 'religious' people back then because of religious artwork for a few reasons. #1) there's way more people in the world today than at any point in history (in fact studies have shown that in the past 100yrs we've over doubled the world's population and in fact will possibly double again in the next 50...scary thought. the author of The world is Flat, Friedman has a book about that coming out I hear) and #2) Religious art was more common due to the fact that the people commissioning works of art were the Church itself in western art for a very long time. Really most of art history is full of sacred art or portraiture of nobility until more modern history. Thankfully Reubens/velasquez/rembrandts came along and smashed the old regime. and Alexiuss of course. I'd give him my first born to come to get to his painting digital techniques. cheeky canadian.
way back in high school...gah that was a decade ago already. I'm fairly confident there are more religious people in the world still than non-religious (gods, why else would people here in the states actually believe in angels, something like over 70% of americans believe in guardian angels....seriously......). Remember, India alone has a nearly a billion people, majority of which are mixtures of Hindu/sikh/muslim/buddhist. Now name a country that isn't religious (china doesn't count since they just pretend their people don't practice buddhism/confucianism/taoism, even though they do lol and as alexiuss can probably attest, communist era russia was still very Russian Orthodox Catholic). maybe those shifty swedes......hard to tell with them and their wiley ways.
Greeeeeeat photo. Good use of perspective. Solid colors too, really like the tones. For some reason I want to crop the darkness on the right side out for a different take on it. However, what you've chosen is more than just a good shot.
Well done
There's such a sharp contrast here that I can't help but keep staring at it.
What catches my eye the most, and I'm not sure of this was intentional or not, is Daria's hair. The curls and the light reflecting off of them gives it an almost cartoonish look, a not-quite-real air about it. As if it were the transitional point between painting and real life, and the two bled together into one odd hue.
Is that really the last supper??? It looks different somehow... the table should be longer, and it's missing several key parts such as the knife, the extra hand, mary magdalain, and much more...
nice photo though ^^
haha extra hand? there none. you watch to many movies. though the mary/john thing can be debated ... da Vinci was a genius so I wouldnt put it above him to play some witty practical jokes.. heh.
