World War II. Japan wises the f*** up and doesn't mess with America. They leave American Pacific possessions alone and don't attack Pearl Harbor. The US stays at home while the other kids fight. It ends in a stalemate.
Metropolitan France and the USSR don't exist anymore. Germany takes France's African possessions. Italy builds its empire. Britain is just trying to keep afloat. Portugal is tanning in the sun.
What's left of the Russia becomes the Republic of Siberia, a poor, demilitarized rump state. Same thing with former SSRs.
The French government-in-exile holds on to Guiana and some Pacific territories.
