Description
Beisa Oryx or East African Oryx is an antelope from, surprisingly enough, East African countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and others.
Actually, there are 2 subspecies of East African Oryx: Fringe-Eared Oryx and this one, Common Beisa Oryx.
Common Beisa Oryx look very similar to Gemsbok, but they have less dark markings and are smaller in size than their South African relative. Both sexes have impressive 70-80 cm long horns.
Beisa Oryx live in arid or semi-arid savannahs, shrublands and grasslands. To be able to survive in these environments, they can go without drinking for a long time, getting water from plants they feed on.

Threats:
- Poaching:
Beisa Oryx are hunted for both their meat and hide/horns
- Habitat destruction:
With most of the population being outside of protected areas, residential and agricultural development is encroaching on antelope's habitat. This also leads to competition for grazing between them and domesticated animals.

Beisa Oryx is currently listed as Endangered with 11,000-13,000 left in the wild.

Theme for this day was Summer/Sparkles
This must've been the most challenging prompt simply because there's not a whole lot of sparkling things in nature. Well, water kinda sparkles. And rain. Especially against the sun. So this is what I went with. I often paint stormy settings with bright sun, but not a lot of actual rain. Also, I wanted to paint some species of Oryx for a little while, so this is a nice coincidence.
