Description
Mountain Pygmy Possum is a small marsupial found exclusively in alpine regions of Australia. In fact, it's the only animal in Australia restricted to alpine habitat.
Despite being very good at climbing, they're primarily terrestrial, making them the only terrestrial Pygmy Possum subspecies. It's also one of the few Australian animals to hibernate through winter. They can hibernate for up to 7 months, waking up only to feed on stashed food.
Protein-rich Bogong Moth, when available, makes up a sizable portion of Mountain Pygmy Possum's diet, with the rest consisting of fruits and seeds.

Threats:
- Habitat destruction:
Due to its already restricted habitat, Mountain Pygmy Possum suffers a lot from urban development, mainly road and ski resort construction.
- Invasive species:
Small possums often fall prey to feral cats and invasive Red Foxes, both considered a major threat to wildlife of Australia.
- Climate change
- Decline in prey population (Bogong moths)

Mountain Pygmy Possum is currently listed as Critically Endangered with about 2,000 left in the wild.

Just wanted to paint a possum in a relaxed secluded environment. It's neat how they have some sort of connection with spring since this is when they come out of hibernation. I don't know if these plants would actually look like that in spring but... at least it's pretty.
Can we talk about how annoying it is that Dewdrop is the only prompt not beginning with an S? No? It's just me? Okay.
