Description

7 light years and one eternity later, I present you...

the tutorial.

Here's the deal: this is the first nail art tutorial I've ever done; I only figured my photo set-up out when I was done taking the pictures and was very unhappy with them and myself until I started editing (what is sequence of tenses, I don't know, it's late). Then I quite liked them. Aaaaaaanywho, if there's anything unclear, or there's a stupid typo (typed in 'shop, didn't proofread), do ask/tell. Please. Sorry. Okay.

NOTE: this technique can be used not only on nails, but basically anywhere: shoes, clothes, starships... Only keep in mind that the waterdrop halo trick won't work on porous surfaces.

WARNING: please, make sure your acrylic paint is non-toxic!

Please, don't re-upload this stuff anywhere. And show me your manis if you decide to try it.

Peace

Most acrylic paint is NOT full of heavy metals.  Only a few are, and it takes a lot more than a few specks to cause a toxic reaction.

"NOTE: this technique can be used not only on nails, but basically anywhere: shoes, clothes, starships"

...uh, NO. If I painted my starship like this, no one'd see me and I'd get crashed into all the time!

On a more serious note, this is pretty awesome. Rock on!

But it's the cheapest stealth technique on the market! Much better value than any holograms and stuff!

And thank you so much!

How long does this take? I'd quit before even trying!

alexskyline In reply to ummiehummie [2013-12-27 02:30:54 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...I'd say, it takes me about an hour to do both hands, but painting nails and waiting for the polish to fully dry are the longest parts, really. It's better not to rush with these, though, so everything is neat.

Yeah, nebulae are one of the most popular designs for nail art, but people usually make them completely out of polish and with loads of glitter...I wanted something more photorealistic. So these were born! And thank you very much, I'm glad you like them, too!

Looks good! Easy to follow and nice presentation!

Thank you for doing it. Will try it out soon. I used a sponge for some halloween nail art for the first time, needs a bit of practice, but it's a nice tool

Thank you so much, I was so worried about how readable it would be!

I'd really love to see your try on these, don't forget to share! And yes, sponges are great for so many nail art techniques! The only greater tools are toothpicks. The Swiss knives of everything.

GinkgoWerkstatt In reply to alexskyline [2013-12-27 10:51:42 +0000 UTC]

You did all fine!

Will try to remember once done
Never worked with toothpicks. I have one of those dotting tools (i think that's what you call them, right?).
