well , the paintings I do with the green grass and blue sky backgrounds , I always paint the background first and then sort of populate the canvas with birds , shapes, etc.. I like to start with BEHR latex house paint (exterior or interior) to make it chunky/chalky/and dry, using brushes , then I eventually get to a point to where I am using the higher priced cobalts and cadmiums and paint markers. this was a commission for a childs room, I usually paint in this style on a much smaller canvas or board. The patron was wanting me to recreate a painting that I had already sold, on a 6' canvas. I have a stack of canvases that can fit in my backpack that I carry around with me with an array of paint markers, some of the smaller ones are mostly paint markers .

I'm glad someone else paints the backgrounds first! I thought I was going mad.
Do you have to wait a long time for oils to dry? I really want to get into oil painting when I get a bit more time.
People say acrylics are just like oils, but I don't think that's true. The more I look into peoples oil paintings, the richer the colours look.
How long do your pieces take you to? For such a small size, you've got a lot of detail in there too!

I wish I could just hang out with you one day and swap tales and learn stuff.

if we artists were ever put into teams for softball , i would hope we could be on the same team, i think we could get a trophy no problem!

Hello Dr. Teagle!
i look at your paintings all the time!
it is a true honor to here from you! with the oil paintings I wet on wet them for a while within the sitting using liquin and a little japan dryer maybe noodle it all up for a couple of hours then i am ready for the next day . i think that the house paint (behr exterior /interior latex) has as much pigment as the good stuff. I wait until the end to do the oils... because they are stinky.
they can take anywhere from one day to 8 months

man , I would love to do the same!!!! can I just come stay with you for a week?
we could make a collaborative comic book or something!!!!
Jack Teagle vs. Alex Warble !!!!!!!!!!

those pom - pom - tree - balls , some with glitter , are some of my favorite visual elements . something about the inside of a gumball machine that just makes your eyeballs secrete the love lotion. you know? man i think that visually you may could never go wrong with a banjo , however in constructing a song banjo can be a little gimmicky and like a weird horse that you sorta never like, but sometimes that horse can win the entire horse derby with its sweet twangs! man I got this really awesome gold cat that i will put up soon, he blends into this wood grain fence and he looks camoflagued out in a good way , lots of elaborately detailed birds flying around him unsuspectedly.

talk again soon
day 3 on those murals went pretty well! i wish you could come help me, right now I am extremely limited to what I can pay you.
I am trying to ask for extra cash for hiring another person possibly 2.

gumball machines rock ! I went looking on the internet for all kinds of machines and man, they have some weird and cool shit out there !!
songs with a banjo are mostly interesting I think, but I know what you mean. great way of putting it.

looking forward to the gold cat ! sounds already awesome

man, I was talking about my girlfriend about your mural and we both went like mmmm, trip to Memphis ?
but if I or we come it should be for more than a few days I think, otherwise it's useless.
I'm actually flirting with the idea, it sounds very tempting ! and I was considering working for free, dude ! the only problem is the flight cost.
If somehow I can find a cheap way or cover the costs a bit, that would already be awesome, because starting from march 1 I will probably have some time off.
I'll have a look at it. keep up the awesome work, looks already great !

well hell man I will still send you an awesome drawing formulated just for you. do you ever print out those amazing digital flowers that you make? My girlfriend LOVES those we look at them all the time. she is very into painting and drawing flowers. I have been teaching her photoshop and I dont really understand how you make it look like that , I thought you used the symmetrical drawing tool , or a mirror brush, possibly from a different program all together then you do the coloring ,cleaning , and refining in the photoshop??? I cant figure it out,
I think that any kid getting stoned for the first time could very well shit all over themselves viewing those. they look so brilliant and lush and rewarding.
thanks again man
send me a note of your address and I will make it rain weirdness on you !

ha!
thanks my digital art brother.
this one was a commissioned piece , they wanted a painting that I had made in the past to be 6' tall - man this was the fastest commission I ever painted in my life. I was just so into the imagery. and also I had nothing to go by while painting. This is my roll out of bed with my brush in my hand and paint for an hour before my coffee painting. sometimes it feels as though paintings paint themselves. this is one of those times.

haha! Nice! . . . i did read the size on this and wondered how much time you spent on the painting. This is BIG! omgosh. . . . what a super commish to receive. . . . i miss my days of mural painting, but the prep-time, i don't miss. . . .

Keep the fun alive!

i want that trucker cap, a man I know sent me a link to these hats that were for sale in real life on a website, he instructed me that I should do those and that would be how i would make some real mullah. i dont really have a bunch of trucker hats nor do I want a bunch of them so I just paint them. i like my symmetry to be a little bit off kilter . The cat is most certainly coming for you and that pile of writhing naked loving dreaming yous.!!!!!
