Description
This is a quick color sketch where I am trying to figure out the lighting and design for my next painting. I am working on another version with brighter lighting, coming in from the side, but this one has fairly muted colors with a diffuse light (coming through the mist). I might try making the fog even thicker, with the hydra heads in the background fading into shadows.Related content

Ok I get it. This is a squad of Amazon monster slayers! They sure do get around. I take it the one with the crest is the commander? Somebody better think up something clever quick. But then, they always seem to pull through don't they. Great work. I'm a fan.

I agree, some more atmospheric effects might add much to the strong composition with a fairly lighted misty background, it will enhance the scale of the monster too. Nice composition and characters expression. If you don't mind a bit a nitpick, the leftest amazon bugs me a bit. Looking forward the completed work!

Critique sandwich time.
The angle which the picture is on adds a ton of edge and energy to the scene. I have a very hard time drawing at an angle, so I'm impressed when someone can use it enhance an image so much. All around, the composition is great. The way the hydras surround them, and spill of the screen, really makes them seem a lot bigger and more threatening.
I feel the background could have used a bit more flaring up. I think the dark grey storm clouds fit the mood, so I'm not sure if adding brighter lighting to the scene would be beneficial. I think some more working on the clouds would make the scene look more complete. But hey, you're the artist; and I love when I'm proven wrong about these sorts of things.
What I think makes this picture the most compelling is the characters. Their poses, their facial expressions, their outfits and equipment, its all very eye catching and interesting! When an artist puts this many moving figures, all wearing roughly the same clothing, its difficult to make each one stand out and/or look unique. In that regard, you've succeeded very well. I think its the unique poses and different expressions each one has that makes each one look like a unique character in their own right.

a question thought: as we have seen this group of amazons -or at least, with the same uniforms-, they are part of a story or project of yours, or only recurryng characters?

I've painted this group of Amazon warriors a few times.. always fighting some mythological creature. I started work on a comic book a while back but I never got past the rough layout phase.

This is looking very good. I think your fog idea would add to the tension--the Amazons don't know exactly where the next strike is coming from. I also like their expressions--much more human for some of them to be freaked out by the attack!
