Sarah Al Meshri, animation coordinator for my Portal short "Companionship", put together an adorable and very well-done rig performance test with the new Chell rig![link]

EDIT: For those who can't help themselves, NO, she isn't opening a portal in a black panel. Users of Maya software will already know that the Maya default viewport lightens and darkens surfaces based on the severity of their angle to the camera. The floor is white, but because of the angle Maya darkens it until it looks like the black floor panels. It's the same reason that the orange "portal" looks pretty much brown here. So rest easy, we haven't gone to this much trouble prepping for the film without ever having played the game ourselves!
This month will see the crew receive their first real animation assignments, and if all goes well we'll have a teaser trailer to show before too much longer!

Hey, really looking forward to this! Your work so far has been amazing and I know the end result is going to be absolutely spectacular. One question i'm curious about, though. Will the animation have GLaDOS (or at least some of her snarky remarks) in it? If so, who will be voicing her? One possibility is contacting Ellen McLain directly.. I'm sure if you have Valve's permission they would be completely up for letting you use her voice. I'm certain as (not sure if you've heard) but there was a custom test chamber project a man was making for his girlfriend. They were both Portal fans and he wanted to use the chamber as a sort of proposal for her. Valve caught wind of it and actually used Ellen's voice and used the speech filter thing. The project turned out successful and i'm sure Valve would love to see an amazing project like this, plus having my favourite fictional character in it would just make this even more amazing.<3

Kickstarter's still planned, we shot the video a while ago, and have been waiting to get banking business squared away. That's finally done, but now we're giving time for post-holiday penny-pinching to fade, and taking advantage of the time to put together a teaser trailer for the launch.

Nope, it's a white panel, just doesn't look that way in the Maya viewport from such a sharp angle. And it's a rig test, not a shot from the film, so try not to sweat it either way.
