Nezha was my childhood hero!!
I like him mostly becuase he just followed his inclinations and wills, never paid importance to the moral rules, doing whatever he wanted, and took whatever the consequences were without any self-confict or self-pity.
And here's a brief introduction of him:
Nezha or Na Zha (Chinese: 哪吒; pinyin: Nézhā; Japanese: Nataku or Nata; Li is his family name) is a Daoist protection deity, the enfant terrible, trickster, one of the best warrier deities, originally of Buddhist Chinese mythology, though in the West he is perhaps more well known from Japanese anime.
Nezha is often depicted flying in the sky with a wheel of fire under each foot, a golden hoop, the "cosmic ring", a red sash around his shoulder and a spear in his hands. Nezha is usually depicted as a youth and rarely as an adult.
In Chinese legend he was born in the Shang dynasty(1600 BC–1046 BC). As the third son of a military commander, his birth was peculiar. When his mother got pregnant, she waited for three years and six months to deliver the boy, but unfortunately a ball of flesh was born. His father got so angry that he split it with a sword, which caused Nezha to jump out and grow fully, even though his mind and temperament were that of a child, so actually he was not a good son, plus his unusual birth, his father always considered him as a monster, a trouble maker and never loved him.
After he killed the third son of East Sea Dragon King, he brought his family the biggest trouble. For saving his family and mostly for not owing his father anymore, Nezha flayed and disemboweled himself in order to pay the fiddler of killing the Dragon King's son and returen his blood and fresh to his parents. His mastar tried to revive him, but his father destroyed his corpse to prevent him from revival, so the mastar, a immortal sage used lotus blossoms to reconstruct a body for his soul to inhabit. (That's why some people consider the revived Nezha as nonsexual, because his new body was made of plant.)
After his revival, the first thing Nezha did was tried to kill his father... but of course he didn't succeed because that was not accord with the Chinese moral... :tongue:However in my personal opnion, I think Nezha would never be close to his father, and his father pretended to accept him as son just because he was afraid of Nezha's new powder...
