Hello it is time. For another OCT. A bit more casual this time, though!
Featuring: my real life snek! (By the way, if you ever wanna see pics of her... follow her Hisstagram! LMAO)

This also just doubles as a ref for my snake in general and not necessarily restricted to the OCT. Double use baby!!

Name: Hissy Peach (can be called Hissy or Peach)

Nickname: Lil Miss Hiss

Gender: Female

Pronouns: She/Her

Species: Western Hognose Snake

Age: 18 equivalent (physically only a few months to a year old)

Length: 1.5 ft (46 cm)

Weight: 100 grams

Backstory:

Hissy was a common feral (non-sapient) snake her whole life until she ate a magical/enchanted frog person (NOT someone from Eremile) and suddenly gained sapience. She is not aware of what she has done, and does not know what to think of her newly-obtained sentience. Thinking is weird. So, she cannot recall anything from her past because sneks are simple creatures who don’t care about remembering such things. She will slowly gain more awareness over time and attain/keep memories. She stumbled upon Eremile by accident and everyone there assumes she is a normal animal-person and do not know she used to be feral (and also that she is a MURDERER oops). She was being temporarily sheltered in the community right before the flood happened (about 24 hours), so she is a newbie and nobody has gotten to know her yet. Or unearthed her SNAKE CRIMES.

Strengths:

  Mildly Venomous: being rear-fanged, she has a paralyzing venom.

Limitations to the venom:
                                • Only significantly affects creatures roughly twice the size of her head or smaller (think: something she would comfortably be able to eat/swallow). For small victims, paralysis begins at the bite wound and expands outward. It will only reach the full body if she is able to inject enough (see below), which may take up to 2 minutes. The paralysis will last a minimum of 3 minutes where it will then begin to fade back inward towards the wound (another 2 minutes, for an entire time lapse of 7 minutes from start to finish).

                            • For victims bigger than twice the size of her head, paralysis does not take full effect. Worst case, only the area bitten will go numb and will also last about 3 minutes. Otherwise, side effects for larger victims are swelling or itching within 2 inches (5 cm) around the bite. The bigger the victim is, the less effective the side effects.

                                • To inject the venom, she must CHEW on the victim and be able to keep a grip on them for 10 seconds at minimum for ANY venom to reach the body. It is a slow process, not instant, as the venom drips down her fangs from the gland and is chewed into the flesh. It may take 1-2 minutes of chewing to inject enough for full paralysis (see above).

                                • She will ONLY use her venom for eating, especially early on when her feral instincts remain dominant, but later when she gains more sapience, she may use it for defense or assault.

Strong: can pull herself away from others' grip or hold someone smaller down if need be. She is NOT a constricting species. She can NOT coil around people and constrict them like some other snakes! While she can coil, it's loose/not a threat. Like a casual hug.

Digger: she can burrow in loose, dry soil very easily.

Intimidation: when threatened, she will do one of two things: 1. flatten her head, hiss, shake her tail, and bluff strike (with closed mouth), or 2. play dead and emit a foul odor. This usually makes people scared and they back away or flee.

Strong Sense of Smell: she primarily navigates by scent due to her poor eyesight. She uses scent to recognize familiar things and people. She can also pick up directions of people/objects (such as where they went or where they are currently positioned) and her tongue will flick in the direction of whatever she is smelling. Her smell does not work long-distance, however, and is focused on short-range only (within 3-4 square feet of her).

Weaknesses:

Not Smart: because she recently became sapient, she is not very smart. She is like a baby and is learning things one at a time. She will gain knowledge over time but will never be a genius.

Temperature Sensitive: she requires thermoregulating, and if she is unable to get herself cool or warm depending on what she needs, she will become sluggish and weak. Temperature comforts are 75-90 degrees Fahrenheit (24-32 degrees Celsius).

Easily stressed: she is confused and ignorant, so most outside influences have the potential to stress her out. Stressing makes her unlikely to think clearly and she may freeze up or panic.

Poor Vision: being a snake, her vision is very poor and she is primarily near-sighted. Things appear duller and foggier in general, and become shadows or shapes the farther out they are (her clearest visual range is within 4~ inches [10~ cm] of her face). She has to rely on her sense of smell to make up for it.

Slow: everything she does is slow. Slow moving, slow attacking, slow defenses. Even in a crisis she is still considerable slow.

Vulnerable: because of her lack of limbs, if someone calls her bluffs, her only defense is to flee. BITING IS A LAST RESORT.

Personality:

  Perpetually confused but also curious.

  Super ditzy and ignorant. Gullible if you are convincing enough.

          Speech Pattern:

              • She talks in third-person and will never use “I/me” when referring to herself. “Hissy don’t like that.” “Hissy thinks that’s unsafe!” “Hissy MAD. >:c” Sometimes she may refer to herself with the pronoun "hiss" or "hisses". Such as "Hissy dunno why you's mad at hiss!" But that's secondary (I use it when I don't wanna write too many "Hissy" in one dialogue string lol)

            • Though she still talks—roughly—in complete sentences, her word choices can be a bit broken. "You's weird!" "We's gotta go!!" "Hissy no say nothin'." She is not incomprehensible but there is a messiness to her speech. She also likes to emphasize a lot so the use of exclamation marks is valid!

              • She has several "catchphrases" she uses which is just throwing the word “hiss” into places. "Oh, hiss!" "That's hissin' ridiculous!" “We gonna have a hissin’ good time!” She also will sometimes say "HECK/HECKIN'" but it is considered a bad word and if she hears someone ELSE say it she will be surprised and possibly offended depending on context.

            • She will NEVER draw out her "s's" (no Hisssss or ssssnake she does NOT do that). She also will not use “hiss” in EVERY sentence, she has SOME restraint lmao

Likes:

  When people call her cute (she will blush)

  A warm hug by those she trusts.

  A dark place to hide and sleep.

When people think she's cool.

Singing songs she faintly remembers (and replacing all the words with better Snekky ones).

Dislikes:

  Sudden, sharp movements.

  Loud noises.

  Getting stepped on.

Dreaming.

Other:

She does NOT have eyelids! Her eyes have a translucent scale over them that protects them. This means she can't blink or close her eyes.

  She can go lengths of time without eating and will not eat when stressed. It will not affect her unless it's been a few months.

  Just to make it clear, her new sapience makes it so she no longer wants to consume other people. Her diet consisted of frogs and mice so if she sees someone from either species she MIGHT remember thinking they were tasty, but has no desire to kill or eat them. Besides, she JUST ate!
  Loves to be pet. But gentle. Pat Pat.

  Booping the snoot does not require consent unless you are a bully then Hissy get MAD.

SBS Finale Updates:

• She still has a minor wound on the back of her head from Mac biting her. It doesn't effect her but it does have a lil band-aid on it from Crepitus.
• She is currently in the process of shedding. Appearance-wise her body is darker, her eyes have a blue film on them, and her belly is pale. You can, however, have her eyes clear up since snakes WILL clear their eyes right before their skin comes off. When the skin comes off, it will do so in one big piece.
• Otherwise, she now sees even worse than she already did, she is INCREDIBLY itchy and uncomfortable, sluggish, and also feels more vulnerable. She is convinced her shedding is a punishment for eating the frog because she doesn't have any memories of shedding before (and she is dummy).
• Mentally, she has just figured out that she ate a person--the frog, Lily Peaches--and you can do what you'd like with this revelation! At current, she is very aware it is a bad thing to eat people, and is upset by it, but is also extremely confused.
• She might have some sort of magic ability inherited from Lily, but she has no idea how to really use it. All she can do, if she could manifest it, is make charm objects faintly glow and emit a small amount of comforting warmth.
