All 8 parts here! [link]

Hi!

People asked me upload my old stuff here, since the whole
CA sketchbook thing seems to be a bit unstable and hard to navigate.

So this is most of what I've done since the beginning of 2008, about 1700 files of all kinds, digital paintings, studies, drawings... anything. This is all fairly crude work, but I upload it to make a point that I think doesn't get stressed enough on dA: Practicing a lot really helps a lot.

Hope this is useful for somebody! :]

This really helps show how putting time into practicing can pay off. I stumbled upon the beginning of your sketchbook first and made my way over here. I was blown away how far you've come in such a short time. Truly inspiring. Your studies also help give a little focus to those who may be struggling on where to start trying to develop their own skills. Thanks for posting these. Β

Just curious, of these hundreds of drawings, how many pages did you do in a day? I'm trying to set a solid pace for myself, but I don't want to go so high that I burn out or so low that I'm going too slow. You think maybe three or four pages of good studies a day, with maybe one really well rendered and focused study?

These are fantastic simply because they show the immense amount of work that goes in to becoming a great artist. A lot of people will look at the few polished works people have on DA and often assume that these people are somehow magically talented or gifted. The fact of the matter is that you are only seeing the 1%, the finished product, and what you do not see is the 99%, the hard work.

I want to thank you for posting this, Hannes. Its truly an inspiration- your skill has developed so much, you're overflowing with talent. Its great to see your hard work pay off, and to know that practice really does count! Keep inspiring!

PS: I'm still heeding your words of wisdom- though it is taking quite a while, I think I'm beginning to improve somewhat on my sketches Thanks again~

As a follower of your work for the past year or so, these zipped files of your work mean quite a bit to me. I've looked at your conceptart.com thread from beginning to end and just have looked in awe to the progression that you've gone through throughout the years. Thank you very much for your consideration and time given to place these files up even though traditionally most artists feel as if their works are too important to share with others, let alone package them up all nicely. Can't wait to delve into these gifts and check everytyhing out, hopefully being able to absorb some of your visual, unspoken advice. Much love.

How do you keep going and not give up?

I find it so hard to draw sometimes, either practice or out of my head because i feel like I won't get better or Ill just critique the heck out of what i did because of the training o am receiving from the illustration program I am in.

seeing other peoples work and looking at my own progress saddens me :-/

How do you just keep going and doing it?

This is amazing stuff! You can really see the progress! I hope I can get off my ass and work as hard as you did to get where you are today! I was just wondering, in your anatomy studies, I recognized some things from books such as Bridgeman and Vanderpoel. There were other pictures too especially with the arms and figure drawing, I was wondering what you used for reference, whether it was from life or from photos.
Again, this is so inspirational... thank you so much for uploading this! It means a lot to all of us! Thank you!

Great studies, damn I thought I was doing a lot but still not nearly enough I guess. Glad you're uploading them here, my internet connection is kind of shit so I don't bother going through sketchbooks on CA.

Which anatomy books did you study besides Hogarth in here? I think I see the Loomis model too

Thanks for this. Really.
I understand it's important to draw every day but I think I tend to draw what's "comfortable" rather than studies on musculature and such. This helps me with ideas on what to practice.
