So, here you go Note it's a little advanced, no "how to draw a loli in SAI".

Fayth39 [2011-10-18 05:16:25 +0000 UTC]

Hey, this is a really helpful tutorial, but I'm still left with one question and I wonder if you can help me answer it...
I really want a texture made of a bunch of dots, like stippling, so I can use the ink-saving shading methods of the detailed coloring books I loved when I was a kid. Without doing it dot-by-dot. (By hand it's not too bad, but it's too easy to ruin on the computer. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but whichever the case, I want to do it on the computer because the lines are cleaner and it'd be easier if there were a brush that did the shading for me.)
There are already brushes made of a bunch of dots like that, even... but the only problem is that I can't get those dots to show individually when I use those brushes. I can't even click once to get the dots, I HAVE to drag the brush to show anything, and when it does show it smears and drags the dots, too, killing the nice and neat stippling affect. T.T
I could probably make a layer texture with black and white noise in a different program and work with that, and just use density to make my shading, but it would probably just make those dots in varying shades of gray, which doesn't really work with coloring pages because gray dims colors. Also, it would only ever be able to be one density between dots, and stippling is supposed to work with distance between the dots, not the shade of the dots. I'd prolly be better off with normal shading in that case.
Could you help me???

I mean, I've seen your work, (especially Grey Ocean) and I don't think that that AWESOME drawing was done by all the texture and vector stuff... I think....

Xurbon [2011-10-12 20:08:30 +0000 UTC]

This explains it all! Yet, i don't think I'll use even HALF of all the things SAI can do... or will I? Maybe because I did't understand half of the things on the tool settings and the texture stuff, I mean, I don't like using all the textures and what'not etc., etc... Also, great job on the toturial!

I have a question. I downloaded some nice patterns and screen tones from Psychobob, but it seems to be in a PAT file, so it won't let me use/covert them. How do I do that?
