*has finally got around to looking at this...*
Looks good! As usual haha. I like the wispy purple around the edges - reminds me of wormholes and such like, which fits in well with it!

Gorgeous gem. The curvilinear gradients soften the planar appearance well.
I like the concept that goes with it. I think I want one of those gems. Highly useful.

Thank you I used the spiralling fractal to suggest that the crystal was opening some sort of portal that would whisk the user to their desired location.
Out of the 12 Crystals of Aether, I'd have to say that I think the Amethyst's power would be one of the most useful (for my purposes anyway).

Thank you There may actually be some more I can send you. If you tell me the last thing you read, I'll see what I can do.
I am hoping to use the money I have saved up to buy a laptop so that I can write more of the story during the summer as I don't really have time during or after school

Alias-Aether In reply to IceFlame1019 [2009-02-28 23:11:25 +0000 UTC]
I created it in Photoshop CS2.
1. I used a grid tool and Vector lines to draw an outline.
2. I filled it with colour.
3. I copied the layer and rotated it, and changed the blending style.
4. I repeated step 3 many times using a different blending style each time.
(It's all the overlapping shapes that make it look like a crystal)
5. I used the burn tool to make areas darker and the dodge tool to make areas lighter.
6. I added a background using a fractual art program called Apophysis

No problem
I've never used GIMP but I do enjoy using Photoshop and Apophysis. Especially together. If you need any Photoshop tips you can ask me.
If you like crystals you should check out the some of my other work there is certainly more where this came from
