Description My first attempt at the dark arts

I love eyes, and for me eyes always has something to tell about a person. In this I used blank eyes, as a sign of emptiness, maybe even the absence of "life" itself... Also, the stare signifies that expectation of it being filled by an outside source (hence the title)
The red lips signify deceit (danger - red is always used as a sign of danger and also of love. The danger in love.). Disappointment comes from the lies people tell. Broken trust through empty promises.
It also signify love. The love of family, and the love of possible partners. The resentment of trusting that love, and that love failing to deliver (in both cases).
Blue and Red in the background signify water and fire. Water the symbol of life. Fire the symbol of destruction.
Having the two colors coming from outside, and joining in the middle of the image, signify the clash between the two elements. With the distortion on the right side of the face, I was hoping for a "dried-out" look, to signify that the fire has caused all the water from the face to dry, and it started to turn to powder and corrode. (I failed this objective in that the distortion does not have a "powdery" look...)
The scar in the face does not look like it belongs there, and the color is wrong to be a "flesh" wound. It is because the scar signify an emotional wound. At places it looks like it has not yet healed entirely, and that's because emotional scars never do... I placed it right over the face, right in the middle, and made it stand out as to pay attention to it, because emotional scars are never seen, and those are the ones that actually needs to be paid attention to.

Anyway, comments and suggestions are welcome!

Please full-view to see the effect of the colors I used...

I think it's a good first step for a first attempt at dark arts.
But there are many details that you could improve.
For example, the light. Your idea of showing the head as a stone is excellent, but you must display it.
Then comes the problem of the background, which must be dark, but must integrate the foreground. The foreground must not detach from it.
Then, you've got the barb, and the moustache. If yu want to create this impression of marble, you must desaturate them.

Thanx for the advice!
I'm not sure how to do it all, but I will look it up and give your advice a try.
Now that I am becoming a bit more comfortable with Photoshop, I must admit that I enjoy it a lot!

You've got that right!
I found a tutorial for desaturising images. I just have to find some time to apply it now
Thank you!
I will let you know once I have made the changes so you can give me some more advice.

Hey!
I have made some changes...
I have faded the edges of the face to make it seem more part of the background...
I also Desaturated the entire face. I have cut away some of the beard and that looks better now, I just don't know what to do about the mustache
I will wait to hear from you!
Thanx!

Yes it's much better, but maybe you should accentuate the light in the middle of the picture... A light coming from the eyes, or just from the middle of the picture..

Thanx
Aha, okay.
I have played with light, but failed miserably!
I will give it some practice and see what I can do.
Thanx again for your advice!
Much appreciated!

You're deeply welcome! How is winter in your country?

Winter isn't really bad at all!
We only get snow in very few places, and most of the country has temperatures above 0. (During the day)
But, I hate the cold, and even our "warm" winter is too cold for me!
I do want to immigrate to Europe (Germany, Belgium or France), so I don't know how I will do with the winter there, since it's much colder than here...

Yes here it's is cold but not that cold neither. It froze all the two last weeks, but now the temperature climbed up to 11° today! You would have love it
I prefer the cold, because for warmy days we've got summer ^^
And snow can be so beautiful
And you really feel something when it's cold, it's a wonderful feeling that I love.

That does not sound bad at all!
I must admit that I have experienced snow only once in my life, and it was not much snow at all. It barely covered the earth, and the grass was still visible in many parts. I do love pictures of snow I have seen, and would love to take some of my own!

I think I know what you mean with your last statement. When I spent the time in the early mornings on the rocks at the beach, waiting for sunrise, it was actually really cold next to the ocean, but that somehow made me feel alive...
It is actually quite a big deal for someone who always feels dead.

Yes, you see... So that's why I couldn't live in a warm country where the temperature doesn't really fall in winter.
