Description
Here's another installment of my Pangea Ultima project. I've realized I gave this group of organisms (the Octopods) the same name as an alien species I created for my Centauri universe. I may rename the aliens at some point or scrap them all together depending on how that universe develops. In the meantime, let me describe these guys.Maize Grove Octopods: As their name suggests, this Octopod species inhabit groves of Maize trees (distant descendants of corn/maize) that grow around rivers that dot the plains. The Maize Grove Octopods evolved long hind legs to travel across the plains to new groves, freeing up the two front pairs for hunting/gathering food as well as climbing. They use Maize trees for food and shelter, preferring the most productive individuals that collect the most rain water for breeding. Given the infrequency of these groves, the Maize Grove Octopods are highly territorial, using bight colors and fore tentacles to intimidate would-be intruders.
This is the last organism for the plains environment so the next installment of this project will be a landscape featuring the next one.
As always, comments and critiques are welcome.
