Description
Another popular example of an uplifted animal, this time an elephant. I want to avoid dependence upon mechanical or robotic prosthetics as part of the uplifting process so its deviations from baseline elephants are entirely biological. Given that the baseline elephants they evolved from are already quite intelligent and have a rudimentary manipulatory appendage in the form of their trunk, the deviations are minimal. Their cranium is enlarged and the end of their trunk has specialized into a pseudo-hand with four finger like extensions. Despite their intellects, uplifted elephants are discriminated against by most other uplifts as less fully sapient for the superficial reason that they walk on four legs like common baseline beasts. In the face of such prejudice, elephants prefer isolated and less hospitable worlds to call home, as evidenced here by the adaptation of fur for survival on its monastic ice-moon.Related content

The thought occurs it would be best for them to stay quadrupedal, because one trip - and they would trip - would be fatal for a creature of their size...

In that case, why not just shrink the elephants ?
Also, looks like the tail is disproportionately large and muscular compared to that of a real elephant, though that might just be the fur making it look bigger than it actually is. Was that a deliberate design choice? Give the uplifted elephants a second prehensile 'limb'?
