Description
This is the final painting of the species I designed which is an alien race from my made-up planet, Dyploon. The creation process can be seen in the past 2 posts where I made lots of iterations and a 3D sculpture to use as a base for this painting.

So to create this I took the 3D model, cropped the background and then used it as a guidance for painting on top while allowing the lighting from the 3D render to show through since it's already correct. I used some pictures from textures.com and other free stock pictures to put in some textures, mainly insect skin and hair as well as beetle carapaces which were very helpful to create a realistic reflection in the exoskeleton of my creature. I then blended everything and painted over making all the textures and the 3D model come together into one object. The main layer modes I used for the photo textures are multiply, overlay, soft light and hard light, I think those preserve the detail of the pictures very well.

This species is around 2-2.2 meters tall, as seen from the scale on the left. And I also have a logo on the right up corner which I made to unify my project and connect all the concepts together somehow.
