Description
Another shot of my improved Dracorex 3D model, I will copy the same description for all of them:2 years ago I posed a 3D model that I made of a Dracorex Hogwartsia, but since then my skills have improved so I decided to rework this model and make a much better presentation.
First of all I posed the body, the straight stiff tail was so unnatural and it broke the entire atmosphere, so I carefully twisted the low poly (I don't know how to rig) in a more natural position with the neck and tail turned and the legs and arms in a slight walking position. Another thing that I thought would greatly improve the composition was some sort of support, initially I thought of something more simple but I ended up with a whole ground, rock and plant diorama. The plants are from Megascans, but the rest are all made by me.
And the final improvements that had to take place were regarding the texturing and rendering. I changed the texture a little by adding some dirt on the feet and some other details. Then I made a whole new eye because the previous eye was a ball which is not how irises work in real life, so I followed a tutorial and made an actual eye with flat iris and cornea, although they are not that noticeable in the final renders. And ultimately I added subsurface catering in Marmoset Toolbag which, for those who don't know, makes the skin look semi transparent and allows the light to pass through a little just like real life skin and that alone make this SO much more realistic.
So now I got quite nice results and I thought of showing you my current skill level.
I'm gonna copy the Dracorex curiosities from the old post:
- The name means "Dragon King" and Hogwartsia comes from Harry Potter
- This species is considered by some scientists to be a young Pachycephalosaurus and not a different species, but there is also evidence showing otherwise
- It is considered that the teeth were used to rip off the leaves from branches, which might imply that this dinosaur didn't have cheeks covering the mouth like in horses, but would rather look like a dog's mouth (I've made an in-between)
