Description My interpretation of 's wonderful piece the Damned
Made for the My Version Contest by (Intermediate skill level)

The original piece is very symbolic, as the two characters themselves are turned into a tree. At the same time, they reach for something in the sky (with the snake ready to insert the apple into their hands).
As for my interpretation, I think the myth of the original sin is essentially about 'stuff they don't want you to know'. This is a fascinating and useful myth for priests wanting to keep their subjects nice and ignorant. In that sense, the myth is very similar to the story of Prometheus . People are being punished for their newfound knowledge of the world. (Whether the snake or the first humans are Prometheus, I leave to your interpretation.)
For the above reasons, I chose to place the dangerous knowledge (apple) in the middle of the interaction of the three characters. Further, I think the 'stuff they don't want you to know' is essentially science: awareness of what's going on around you - therefore, terrestrial, closer to the ground (as opposed to being in the sky in thecamat's image). As the characters are about to grasp this knowledge, they become aware that they're not in paradise and that they are mortal.

The desolate greys really make the golden snake scales pop

Thanks! 'Desolate greys' aren't my usual style, so it was really difficult to keep the colors to a minimum. I do like the contrast between the snake and the background.

Wow, man, this is awesome! You've nailed the idea, visually and conceptually, and put your own spin on it as well. It's literally and figuratively another angle to the whole idea... I have to say, I feel mine works better as a trilogy, but you've managed to isolate it and make it your own!.
Best of luck in the contest!

Thanks! I was anxious how and if you would comment. I really like your trilogy, and I think you should do another from a different angle. When I saw one as an option in this contest, I just had to go for it. I'm glad I was able to do it justice.

You’re very welcome, and I had to comment! Again, amazing work! And thank you, I’m honored you chose mine to recreate... you’ve definitely done it justice!
I am actually planning another semi-related trilogy. It won’t be targeted at religion, but at delusion and misplaced ideals.

Delusions are such a great idea! Good luck on that project! Here are some of my work on that theme:

Awesome stuff! Seems I need to dig deeper into your gallery... Didn’t notice these ones.
But yeah, my “Neurosis” folder is mostly about delusions. They all have something related to delusions or personality defects.
