I love how you used it so it wasn't so bright by just puting just the amount of color needed, i have worked with purple and blue and i know how hard it is to find a balance because of the blue being such a dark color and the purple beign one so bright and atractive but this is just perfect

Thank you for your kind words, really appreciate it! The colors are often the first thing I have in mind when working on these art pieces. Also I try to use rather original color combinations, but also fit the mood I want. So am very glad that this turned out the way you like it!!

The colors here, they blend just perect. That purple is my favourite color and this image represents it so well. I love it.

can't answer the question, but wow! One of the best broken planets I've seen so far. Nice work!

THANK YOU! Took me a while (and a few tries) to figure out how to create good looking broken planets, but now I got a good technique going. It will also get used in a short film i'm working on. If you are interested, hop over to my YouTube channel and watch the latest trailer! Anyway, keep up your good work .. you are one of my favourite artists lately on DeviantArt!! So kreative ideas and compositions

How many hours did you work on the render? I just created a broken planet in blender and it looks terribly plain compared to yours, but I'm hoping to fix that with some heavy Photoshop editing.

Wow nice! I am excited how it turns out to work for your planet!
For mine, I needed about 10 hours to sketch, model, sclupt details and texture all of it. Plus some time to figure out the workflow.
The funny thing is, i started out in Photoshop and ended up right back in Photoshop also at the end. Because, and here might be a tip for you, at first I importet a 3D geo-sphere in Photoshop's 3D layer system and set up a sharp grungy brush with which I could paint a blender map for the cracked areas directly onto the planet. So I had good control over how much destruction I wanted to have and where. After some refining, i could then export this painted blender back from Photoshop into 3ds Max as a 2D texture map. This was great, because now I could use this blender map for shading, placament map for particles (some loose stones and stuff) and sculpting-mask, so that the normal round surface of the planet would stay clean and the cracked area could be affected by sculpting more chaotic geometry and dirt textures into it. Also, this way it helps to maintain sharp edges around the cracks, where the planet falls apart, which makes it look very big I find. By the way, I also did the sculpting in Blender. The dynamic topology tool is just awesome! When the whole thing then was once rendered out, I did a little bit of post work in Photoshop, but much less was needed that I initially thought. Just a bit of glare at the bright parts, a little color correction and some sharpening on some areas.
Hopefully this helps you a bit, feel free to try out this idea!! I think you won't regret it!

Thanks for the tip! The workflow sounds quite complicated for someone like me who is used to working only in a single programm and just started out with blender.
I ended up using a lot of Photoshop postwork, as I predicted before. The cracks don't look as impressive as yours, but it's a slightly different setting anyway as I intend to show to moment of rupture, while yours seems to be a little mor stagnant. To break the planet apart I used the cell fracture plugin in blender with the grease pencil, which was fairly easy to use. I'll probably put the final image up tomorrow. Thanks again for your tips! I might test them in my next project.

WOW, Hail of Bullets looks amazing! Awesome how you captured the energy of this brief moment where the planet gets hit!! What I like the most about this image is the meteors though. The really cool thing is, you have really original ideas for space arts. That's always refreshing to see
