This is a rather striking work that perfectly captures the nature and darkness of this legendary being. An excellent work, and, while not by any means an original composition, is has all the striking features and darkness that this beast from the stars is known for.
Technique: The artistic technique here is very good. The strokes of the pen/pencil are even and fluid. There is no hesitation, the artist knows exactly where they want the stokes to go before they make them. They are dark, but not to the point they obscure detail, which is an easy pitfall in this type of art. The details of the ghostly skulls in the background, while almost invisible, are a very nice touch, and in keeping with the original movies and theme.
Proportion: The proportions here are excellent, as some people make the Alien too humanlike on proportion. The original actor, Balaji Badejo, had much longer arms and legs than a normal person, which lent the Alien an otherworldly feel, while being very close to human form. Here, the size difference is clear, not just in the relative sizes of the heads, or even the arms, but the Alien's hands are bigger than the human's head.
Detail: The fine details here are excellent. The design of the Alien is a perfect combination of the designs from the first and second movies, the artist has clearly researched and used reference. The torso (thorax) retains that exoskeletal/armored quality, but also the shiny, otherworldly feel of a material that we have never seen. Is it bone? Metal? Rubber? To capture that quality is something I have seen very few artists do. The reflections on the ribs, arms, head and tail are all perfectly in harmony. There is no indication of multiple or alternative lightsources, which lends this not only a homogenous look, but also makes it look very professional.
Overall: This is an excellent work by a talented artist who has a very capable and sure control over the medium. Offhand, I would have to say that the artist should submit samples to comics and magazines, as they clearly have both the skill, and the vision to do professional work.
