Hi! I really like this pic and I'm quite amazed you made this with charcoal. May I ask on what material you painted this..? Is it paper, or maybe some sort of plastic film?

I adore all of your artwork. They are full of spirit and life. They don't look so "drawn to death" (if that makes any sense) like many other naturalism artwork I've seen. May I ask, do you use referrence for all your work or only sometimes? Because I'm struggling so hard to get anatomy and all that stuff in my mind. Drawing from ref is so much easier but I have the feeling of being a bad artist when I can't draw anatomy from my head. So I'd love to know how experienced artists work. ^^'

Thank you and i know exactly what you mean. Yes i do use my refference or sometimes paint from life. Drawing from mind you need a good visual memory. I try not to draw from my head because why do I make my self struggle when I can ask a model to sit for me. Sometimes I need to paint a hand and i ask my friends or even my mom to pose her hands for a bit. It depends what you want to say with your art. When I paint from my head it turns too dream like and fantasy ish... far from real life that im trying to capture

the way you use the light in you sketches is astonishing....
may i ask what kind of paper have you used?

alifann In reply to obstacle2anna [2011-01-17 13:55:33 +0000 UTC]
I try to find yellow tinted paper, something a bit off white. Other than that it's not really special paper. Only from sketchbooks.
