I read somewhere that yellow is full of creative and intellectual energy: it symbolizes wisdom and people of high intellect favor it.
Tim was the first Robin to make a decent costume (with pants I mean), and he's obviously the most intelligent of them all (after Alfred, Bruce and Barbara). That's why I chose yellow for him.
