Several times per week I run down and walk back up this bridge as part of my exercise routine. It is a time when I think and pray.
A couple of days ago as I approached the bridge I saw police crime scene tape had been placed to close the area and there were many police and emergency vehicles on the bridge and below. My heart sank as I turned back. In the newspaper the next day I found out that two boys, age 16, - friends - had tragically ended their lives together earlier that morning. Both had health problems and sadly, they both saw this as a solution to their fears and depression. Today a single floral tribute marks the place on the bridge where Alex and Irn took their lives. I stopped there to say as prayer for their families and friends that they will heal from their enormous grief and know that there was nothing they could have done to change this tragic choice the friends made together. I thought of the love the boys shared as friends, their final words to each other and their thoughts of finding peace beyond this life. It is very sad.
