What if Sans and Papyrus were the scientists who created Gaster? Sans is a big ol meanie in this AU, he would probably be the one who conducts all the horrible experiments. He would probably try to convince Papyrus that Wingdings isn't really sentient, despite it being an obvious lie.

Papyrus would get attached to the test subject pretty quickly, maybe he would be teaching him how to write and read and solve puzzles. However when Sans starts hurting him, he wouldn't stop him, because he doesn't want his brother to think he's spineless. Ironic, isn't it? He's being a coward by trying to prove that he's not a coward.

The brothers would probably still care about each other, in their twisted way. I imagine it went south back when the skeleton genocide happened; they definitely wouldn't be cuddling like in canon, in any case.
