Zygarde's main formes are based on various Nordic mythological creatures. The 50% forme (the one we've known since X/Y) is based on Nidhogg, the serpent that dwells in Yggdrassil's roots. The 10% forme (the dog) is based on Fenrir. The Perfect forme (the giant) is based on Surtr.

The Perfect forme could also be based on Hel from Nordic Mythology. She is often described as having one side that looks dead and one that looks alive. Zygardes perfect forme has one side thats red (yveltal = death) and one thats blue (Xerneas=life)
