Phenomenal action shot! I'm practicing the technique for capturing instants like this. I've been "schooled" by photographers who have been shooting for most of my natural life that an "action" shot is to be taken with a slow enough shutter to capture a little blur. There's a time for that. But they were taught by the book. I'm taught by what I think is cool, and I am *fascinated* by freeze-frame action...especially when it involves a) intense athletes or b) water!

I am amazed by this, not just because you froze the action. A good camera can do that. But that in 1/1000 of seconds of judgment, you got the frame, the peak timing of the spray, and the peak position and expression of the athlete! ...and that takes a damned good cameraman! Kudos!

I started surfing when I was 13 in 1961 around Newport Beach in Southern Calif. In 1964 we moved to Northern Calif. I love Steamer Lane on a good day. The waves break around inner peak as well as the point, making for some great shooting positions from the cliff. Surfing is a challenge to anticipation, and it helps being able to read the wave. That helps a lot when shooting the action.

I'm slowly picking up on anticipating the right moment, and it does help to understand what is going on, whether it's a live band, hockey, or any other sport.

Thanks bud... The water here varies in color, but the green really stands out... I think it's because it's cold, but who knows
