For me, however strange that may sound, the creepiest part is that meat of egret's head stayed fresh and did not dry out and discolor into faminiart reddish-brown, despite the pretty, deadly-looking retina!

That's partly artistic choice... to repeat the red from his eyes in a couple other areas within the composition.

I see! Yes, it's sure better for composition this way... It just struck my "creep-o-meter" in a way different from other people, andΒ I wasn't sure if that was intentional or not. Now I know!

oh wow, what a cool looking guy. Though I'd be terrified to see him staring through my window at night!

What is going on in this picture?? The monkey used the head of a bird to spear a fish??? Awesome! Does this actually happen
Β in nature?

Bearded Fishers have learned from observation that the best tool to use for spearfishing is the bill of a large wading bird such as an egret or heron. Only one way to get such a tool... and while tool use definitely does occur in nature, I don't think this sort of thing actually does. But it could, right?

It'd be freaky if this happened in nature. But it'd make for some intense nature programs.
