Chuck, the Sardinian stallion, stood impatiently in his stall. Presley had created a routine with the stallion she affectionally called his "spa days." These spa days were basically just a chance for Presley to spend some time rebraiding the horse's mane and bathing him if his coat needed it. These were essential tasks for keeping a show horse like him looking their best, but Presley did love spending the extra time with him once a week. Chuck, being the pretty boy he is, adored spending this time getting pampered. Presley thought of it as the equivalent of a person going to get their nails done every couple of weeks, but the horse version of it.
Presley grabbed a pink winter coat and walked to the barn. Today, she was thankful for a fully enclosed barn as the temperatures in Jorvik dipped below freezing. A thin layer of frost coated the stone road to the barn. She quickly opened and shut the stable door, teeth chattering. The stable was very well insulated and remained warm even in the coldest of temperatures.
On a freezing day like today, Presley decided to leave all the horses in their stalls with their blankets on. Chuck neighed happily as Presley entered the barn. Birdie and Zorro raised their heads, seemingly uninterested in whatever Presley was in the barn for. She grabbed a treat and gave one to each of the horses. She gave each of them a quick glance over to make sure their blankets were still in place and everyone was feeling fine. With such large temperature drops, the risk of colic increases drastically. Presley was thankful that all the horses seemed healthy and happy, although a bit restless from being in the stall for longer than usual.
Grabbed Chuck's leather halter, she clipped into the cross ties in the barn aisle. She removed his blanket to reveal a gorgeous buckskin coat underneath. The winter coat had slicked down his hair and left him looking like he was ready to enter the show ring. His mane, however, was a different story.
Since Chuck was going through some pretty extensive training right now, Presley had to keep his long mane in braids to not interfere with the reins when she rides. The Sardinian genes left him with a gorgeous, long silver mane that Presley wouldn't dare cut. The longer mane made him a showstopper in the showpen, especially in reining, which Presley was training him for.
Chuck stood happily in the cross ties as Presley took the bands out of the braids. She walked to the tack room to retrieve a brush and detangler. Keeping the braids in meant the mane didn't tangle too much, but the detangler added some extra shine and softness as she re-braided it.
After several small, tight braids. The job was done. She gave the stallion another pet as he stood calming in the crossties. Presley was pretty sure she had even noticed him falling asleep at some point. She unclipped him from the crossties and put Chuck back into his stall. She put his blanket back on and began the evening chores. With the horses all being in their stalls, the chores took a bit longer than usual. Typically, the horses were out in their individual paddocks as much as possible. However, with the icy ground and some of the horses not being used to the climate, she decided to play it safe and keep everyone in the barn for now.
After mucking out all of the stalls, she began to prepare their evening feed. The horses all neighed as they heard the feed pellets hit the buckets. The sound of the happy horses made Presley smile a bit, despite being tired from a day of working.
She gave the horses their feed, refilled hay bags, and turned off the lights as she walked out of the barn back to her home.

The angle of this one is a little weird, and it makes me not love it butttttt Chuck is adorable. Seriously obsessed with drawing this guy (as is obvious from all my recent devs).
