Description
Entry for *WolfcatStock 's Secrets Contest.Well, I guess the basic premise of this picture is that she's a woman by day and a mermaid by night. Her true love doesn't know what happens to her after sunset...how can she tell him? Will he still love her? Good grief, that's corny

The sky is indescribebly beautiful It feels fragile, like if she does the wrong thing it will shatter apart.
I have got crit though. Don't I always? Her skin feels very dull - blue layered over flesh tones does dull it and compared to the vibrant background it just doesn't feel right. I know colours are dull at night but this is art dammit
we make the rules! I think some high contrast highlights right on the upper outline of her hair, shoulders etc would be fabulous, and working some shadows through her face and shadowed arm would again make her pop a little more.
Hope that helps

I always love your critique! Shadows and highlights are one of my weakest points. I've made some changes, does it show any improvement? Before I submitted I was really trying to get the highlights and "pop" that you've given me suggestions for before, but I still didn't get enough. Ah well, practice 'n' all.
I'm so glad you like it though I was quite excited to be able to use that yummy crackly texture. At first I'd tried it over the whole pic, and it just didn't work, but I loved how it looked over the sky. So I kept that
Thanks for all your help

It reminds me of Blue Peter projects - using foil in the sky painted blue I adore it!
The highlights are MUCH better - you really get the feeling she's isolated, under a spotlight. I know lighting is horrifically difficult in photomanip cos everything is lit differently - take a look at some of =cypherx 's work. She is a master of highlighting - look at how she uses pure white highlights. [link] is a great example of directional light I mean that's digital painting obviously but I think that photo was an overpainting

I sort of fiddled around trying to get some highlights like the link you showed me, but wasn't sure how to pull it off and had to settle for what you see now *sigh* I need to find some more tutorials

I shall be studying whats-her-names stuff some more, 'cause I do like how she's done highlights.

Oh and by the peeling sky I'm sure you meant the sky is falling right? That's the significance you were looking for. Or at least crackling.

Ok, sounds good to me. I suppose it could be her perception of the world, that everything is falling apart.
Oh well.

Sure. I liked it fine before. My eyes must be sore. (Hey that rhymes)! But I can't see the difference. I don't have to re-fav it do I?

It was more brownish before, and now it's greenish Not a real significant change I guess. Oh well. No re-faving necessary

Yeah yeah I know And you're my sweet rubbernecky gato. Really that avatar, cool, but creepy. You might as well morph into a werewolf if you're gonna put the heebeejeebies in people. After all it is close to Halloween. Does that mean we may see a return of zombiegato?
