Description Lol....well, I dunno. This picture look familiar? It seemed like a good idea at the time, to have the "littlest elf" meet the "littlest mermaid". Oh well.

For *createbyweek 's Week 11 Challenge .

Yes, I had to assuage some concerns from people who thought the seagull was going to eat them! But he was just the littlest elf's means of transportation Thanks Lori

Gorgeous ~ I'm in awe of your cutting out ability ~ how do you manage to extract the image so cleanly? You've even managed to keep the tufty bits of his hair ~ I can't do that!! This is a lovely idea and beautifully done

Thank you so much! Cutting out is something I'm fairly obsessive about. There's probably easier ways than what I do, but I've found my way to be the most precise (for me). I'll use the lasso tool around an image to get roughly as close as I can, copy, and paste into my desired background. Then I use a medium-ish eraser with soft edges (some people don't recommend it, but it's what I prefer) to clear stuff closer to the image. Then I magnify to 100-200+% and use a much smaller eraser to get right up to the image and in all the cracks. I still use the soft edge eraser because I find it so much more forgiving than the hard edge one. As for the hair...Hair brushes!!! I adore ~trisste-brushes sets. You can check out my credits link for the exact ones I used this time. Hope this was helpful (and not too boring)

That was very helpful! You must have SO much patience and skill. I've tried the same technique but haven't used a soft-edge eraser. I guess I should just practice ~ I use 's brushes, too ~ they're brilliant ~ she's never online tho

Pretty much everything I do has been a method of trial and error, and also running across some helpful tutorials, and the occasional artist comment on a particular picture. There's still so much I don't know how to do though! One thing about the soft-edge eraser is that the bigger the brush, the farther out from the actual eraser you're going to be erasing...if that makes sense. That's why when I'm working up close at 200% I use a pretty small brush. Sometimes I like to have the effect the large soft-edge brush has, which leaves the edges of your picture somewhat transparent. Anyway...I'm good at rambling, sorry
