Only a small variety of things have the capability to diminish one's determination, as it is tied to an extremely strong faith in one's abilities. Should one's determination be diminished so far, their SOUL can lose determination entirely for a short period of time. In humans this is mostly harmless, though it is associated with depression if it happens too often.However, when even a portion of a human's soul becomes unstable (naturally or synthetically, it does not matter,) losing determination can mean permanent damage. This is where a human's corporeal body comes into play: If the destabilized soul loses determination, it causes the human to pass out until a loved one finds them and nurses them back to health. This is an extremely rare occurrence that has mostly been associated with dainty women who are unable to handle stressful or shocking situations.
Unfortunately monsters are not the same way. In the rare case where a monster takes on a human soul, losing determination with a stable soul causes the same effect as in humans with unstable souls. Should the monster be careless and let the soul destabilize, then losing determination is fatal to the point where even memories of them become corrupted.
The unfortunate family members who have corrupted memories of a loved one are usually prescribed photon treatment, which makes the memories disappear entirely, as if they weren't ever there. Through this process, a deceased monster's dust is exposed to a photon-rich environment until the memories go white and vanish. However, a live monster must be careful not to step into the photon-rich environment; studies have shown that monsters who do so are instantly forgotten and suffer unknown side effects.
