Description Originally, I wasn't gonna do this, because of Smissmas. Demo went through a lot of buffs and nerfs, so I was hopeful that this might have changed. IT HASN'T CHANGED IN THE SLIGHTEST.

Demoman, as a whole, has a major problem: When you get in a demo's face, the really don't have a way of defending themselves. The bullet classes can just fire primary to deter attackers, and pyro has the airblast. Demo, other than melee, will wind up getting hurt. Demo was made to be played, as a medium to long range class. I only bring this up, as the ONLY defense I have for this weapon, and moreso, "method of using this gun".

Back when the sticky launcher was made, (early TF2), it was made, for trap setting: Placing them in hidden locations, and setting them off, when someone passes by. Even the first new weapon for the slot, promoted this technique. Then I want to say, in 2011, I saw "Sticky Spamming" become more frequent in pubs (And yet, it's an achievement to do so). To those unaware, to do so, hold down MOUSE2, and just fire in mid-air. As soon as the bomb becomes primed, it'll explode. So, you've basically, got a Rocket Launcher, with shorter range. However, bigger clip size: 8 bombs, to stocks 4 rockets. It's not a problem, until you realize, up until Smissmas 2014, demo did more damage. But, even now, they do just about as much.

One of the bigger problems, stems from the name of this method: Spamming.
When you have a clip size of 8, and good enough fire power to take out multiple targets, you're gonna use it as much as you can. So, you might see, just a demo running at you with a stickybomb launcher, just spamming away. ItΒ  doesn't have to be a direct hit, just in your area. It's just something very annoying to combat.

Valve has been making changes once in awhile, but have never actually went through with anything. During the Love and War Update, they added damage ramp up, making spamming rather useless. Not even a month later, they reverted it back, due to the cries of the competitive scene. This Smissmas, they added radius ramp-up, so they'll take awhile to ramp up to max, unless they hit the world, and the max, was dropped to equal Soldier's rocket radius. I didn't really change much, at all. And, they added a weapon, all about this mechanic. Great.

Speaking of competitive, this is the issue that makes me hate this weapon as much as I do: This is a DOMINANT HIGHLANDER STRATEGY. Like...really? Competitive players can't aim their grenade launchers, so they have to spam? The same demographic, that bitches everytime a pyro holds down M1, is the same group of people that Holds down M2, and right clicks? Yeah...way to be professional guys. I barely play demo, and can aim straight.

Valve, I'm actually fond of the changes you made this Smissmas. I love the Iron Bomber, the Buff/Nerfed Loch n' Load, and the fact you made the Tide Turner less God Tier than it was before. However, keep working on the sticky launcher. If you want it to set traps, make it suit that; If you want it to air bomb, just continue to update the Quickie Bomb Launcher.

I've played as the Demoman, and to me, he can be fun to play with fun variations to mess with. I for one, never spammed this, plus I never heard about it up until now. I just use the Stickies for either ambushes, her flying with the not-so greatest of ease. But when I mess with the Demoknight setups, then things get a whole lot more interesting. When I get the chance to redownload TF2 on this computer, I'll see if I can't monkey with maybe a Pirate-themed Demoknight.Β

I can't play TF2 but I've heard so much about the Demo being a complete pain.

A single Demo, isn't hard to 1v1, but combined with a medic, or someone supporting him, it gets annoying to handle. I also doesn't help, how you can go into a random pub, and a majority of the demomen, will be sticky spamming. Once you get a rythmn, and can use their weakness against them, they aren't so hard.

Demoknights though...
