Description There he is, my wonderfully cross-eyed Thane from Mass Effect . I experimented a little here, because I didn't trust myself to get the tiny scales of his face right. So I used a piece of mosquito net for hatching, just to simulate the structure a bit. Could also still use a bit of shading, but I'm rather happy with it right now.

Digitally adjusted brightness and contrast because the scanning process flattened the picture a little.

Pencil.

I can't stop staring at the eyes, but the details on the face with the tiny scale like ridges, really awesome!

Thank you! Hehehe, yeah I kind of messed up the gaze, but when I noticed I thought, so what, he's a "special" Thane then. The scales on the face were made with the help of a mosquito net. You get creative when you're lazyΒ .

Hahahaha, I would as well. I wanted a good looking rocks once and took my paper, went out to the gravel by my driveway and just shaded over them to get a feel for it. Mosquito net, not that I wish I had on hand.

Yeah, why not! I think it's a great way to learn, just go out and get in touch with the real thing... ok, rather difficult with fictional alien characters, I admit, but if I had a lizard... no, not continuing that line of thought

Cool picture! The contrast is good, and I like the eye detail.

I can't decide if it looks a little crossed because of the pupil spot, the width of the eye on the right, or the strength of the cheekbone-thing on the right. Hmm...

Thank you . Yeah, I'm also not a 100% sure about that, but I believe it's because of the light in his right eye, it's not placed correctly or too large or something... Well, he is *special* .Β

See, now that you say that, I looked again...

...and now I'm pretty sure it's the pupil of the eye on the left. Just the pupil. The light effect on it looks fine, but the pupil is towards the center of his face just enough to not match how everything else seems to line up naturally. BARELY. Hmm.

Yeah, I'm still impressed when people have the patience to draw this well by hand with a pencil. I tend to end up going a little more cartoony (outlines for everything!) and start rushing things.

Yes, you could be right. Getting the gaze right more difficult than I thought. We humans are just so good at "reading" faces that we notice even the tiniest divergence. Going to pay to attention to that more next time.

Oh, thanks again! There's nothing wrong with a cartoony style! I like drawing details, I get a flow-feeling from it - but I'm also rather impatient. I could have spent another two hours at this pic, but I just wanted to start something new. I find it hard to stay focused after a while.Β

I've done a few things where I go mega-detailed, and avoid the cartoony look, but I tend to do that digitally and with color. By hand, I always go cartoony.

...and I'm impatient both ways. hahaha

I still don't think it's a big mistake. I saw the preview, and didn't think anything of it until I clicked to view the image, and saw your comment on him being cross-eyed. Of course, once you read that, you can't NOT notice it. Hahaha

I do think it's minor though. Especially because even when I was looking at the eyes, it was still tough to figure out.

Damn, should have kept my self-critical mouth shut . I'm still very clumsy with digital artwork, the mere amount of possibilities you have with all these tools kind of paralyzes me. Anyways, thanks for your constructive feedback, it's always welcome !
