Undertale IS an amazing game as well, but so is Terranigma. Unfortunately, the latter is very underrated.

Yeah I wouldn't call it a fandom aswell, more like a community of people liking it. That's basically the same but I think the word ''fandom'' has kinda become a bad version of that. I actually used to like Undertale though, the first third was pretty atmospheric and I liked the visuals and especially the music but when it started to become sort of like a wannabe version of Earthbound with some forced quirky humour and 4th wall breaks it started to go downhill for me. Not that I didn't like it anymore, just it wasn't that interesting as before. Appearantly I'm in the minority here, since most fans thought it was the best part. Especially the Sans/Asriel stuff, which was pretty intense, to be fair, however it brimmed with forced emotions which are typically toxic for young children's behaviour *cough* UNDERTALE FANART *cough*. Anyway, still glad too see there are people finding out how amazing this game is. It really shows how good it is, when you can make people experience real emotions etc. and still have them act really mature. That's how it should be.

The number of people who know and love Terranigma is very low, that's what I meant when I said no fandom. I'd have liked to see more art, more fics, and ideas about the world of the game. You know, all that creativity that comes from people who truly enjoy something. Of couse, there'll always be things we don't particularily wish to see, but those can easily be ignored.

As for undertale, I personally loved that part the most. the way characters went from being just  2D characters to feeling like actual individuals. And, as crazy as the fandom tends to get, they have some serious creativity. I just love seing people's ideas take form in words and art, and making a work expand beyond the limit of what's official. As if a way to say that world has not ended, just at the end of the game/book.
But hey, to each his own.

I'm currently playing Earthbound too (still in the first town), so I didn't feel the dèjà-vu beyond the design, considering I only watched my sister play it as a kid, and the same goes for Terranigma.
I first fell in love with it when I was around 10 or something, while watching my sister play it, and while I can't say I remember every detail of the story, I remember how much it made me feel a lot of different things, and as a 10 years old, I wasn't satisfied with the end because I couldn't understand it. And that's how I decided to replay it, in order to go through all of those emotions again, and try to undestand the messages that I failed to see a child.
I'm currently in the part with princess Celina (french version), and I can say I'm glad I decided to do this.

I can comprehend your arguments about the latter part, I guess I'm just a little biased because that part is typically the part that gets drawn through the mud alot and it's not even 100% the art but how some people react to people criticizing it, as if we were in the middle ages and I told them earth isn't the center of the universe.
By ''wannabe Earthbound'' I was playing with the fact Toby got a lot of his inspiration from Earthbound. I have a book about the localization of Earthbound, explaining almost every little pun and joke in the game and if you played Undertale you will see how much he tried to come across like Shigesato Itoi with his dialogue. Inspiration it is, still people act like HIS dialogue is so unique and hilarious, Earthbound fans like me just roll their eyes and sigh. Of course I can see a lot of them are kids (even if they're older than 10 sometimes),
I can accept that, I just prefer a more emotionally and mentally sophisticated community, so I turn to Terranigma.
I had only seen some screenshots before my first time playing it around Christmas 2014, so I had no idea. After finishing it a month later and looking back at that moment, I can honestly say, Terranigma has been one of the most important philosophical influences on me. This is the kind of fascination I wish other fandoms would have aswell, instead of being basically fanservice.
To end on a positive note here, you will not regret playing the game again. You will have gone through a mental metamorphosis. You will keep your child-like fascination and will be able to appreciate it like an adult.
