I fucking love Luna, the facial expression, the pendant, and that little moon trinket are all really nice.
I always liked the Luna's and Celestia's head shape because of the jawline being so much better than a normal pony's.

It gave at the end a wonderful work of the beautiful princess of the night. I like the design of the collar. And I see that you got the little moon we seen in the comic (Reflection arc) hanging from her horn. Nice touch.

Yeah basically because I have no clue how I managed to draw this. I guess the best time to draw Luna is when your thoughts flow and listen to music and you kinda just let your creativity take over.
I'm really glad you like the collar, I put a lot of thought into it! This actually started out as a practice doodle for jewellery and experimenting to find out how light behaves when it falls into a round gem. The Reflection Ark was a very good object to test on, and it fit the picture. So I kept it c:
I don't think a smile would have added to it.. I wanted to make Luna like an avatar of the night, representing it's traits. The cool expression, the calm and clear eyes accompanied by the starry nightsky.
But if you look closely, Luna has a dark side. And THAT is why I didn't include a smile 8)

I should have taken more attention to her eyes. Yep, she's in no mood for smiling. She should wear something more regal or noble like the one you drawn than her usual black collar that would suit better her natural beauty. Oh well.
Of course, she has a dark side, however it makes her more mysterious. We seriously need more background about her and Celestia. One day. Perhaps.
