More solutions to writer's block! Or maybe just a way to kill time by rolling random numbers and seeing what happens.Similar idea to the one character version [link] , but the idea revolves around two characters interacting in a specific way, as opposed to one character finding him/herself in a strange situation. I kept some of the phrases that I liked from the one character version, but tried to mix things up a bit as well.

Like I said in reply to an earlier comment, it does not have to be one of the two named characters that says the phrase (though it can be). This is to give the author/artist some freedom.
For example, say Donut happens to find Doc and Grif in this closet. They happened to be doing something embarrassing in an attempt to escape when they were found. Doc and Grif try to explain away the embarrassing situation; Grif says something that isn't dirty when said in context, like "I mean, it's not like I would ever take it like that," and Donut responds with "That's not what you said yesterday." Hilarity ensues.

I'd have to agree with the perks of freedom, although I would probably still try to give it to one of the 'chosen' unless for some reason it just didn't flow or fit. In that case it would be on to the next randomly selected guest
Heeee, Donut material is a win pretty much 100% of the time. Also, I love how often Doc can make a situation that much worse just by opening his mouth. Its like he has Washington Syndrome or something

Gonna do about 5 of these...when I'm not busy fusing Pokemon sprites XD
North Dakota has to rescue Caboose. North says "Nothing I couldn't handle."
Maine and Caboose team up for a common cause. Caboose says "What could possibly go wrong?"
Washington is held prisoner by Sarge. Wash says "This should be interesting."
North and Sarge are forced to work together. Sarge says "Say that again".
North plays a prank on Wash and North says "You had it coming."

Actually, the 'Someone has to say' column doesn't mean that one of the two characters has to say the phrase (although one or both of them can if you want to). Someone else in the story can say it. This is meant to provide some flexibility in the resulting story, so that no two stories about the same combination will be exactly the same.
Let's use an example that I gave another commenter earlier. Let's say you ended up with:
Tex
Church
Go on a crazy adventure
"Where are we going?"
Your interpretation of the rules is perfectly valid. So, if either Church or Tex says, "Where are we going?" You might end up with this story:
Tex is trying to take Church off to some far flung place. As she drags Church into the car, he says, "What the hell are you doing? Where are we going?"
However, the chart is rather flexible. Let's say you decided to make another character say it:
Tex and Church are trying to go off some place by themselves (bow chicka bow wow). Just as they are about to leave, Caboose jumps in the car with them and says, "Oh wow! I love roadtrips!... Where are we going?"
Completely different scenarios. The former sounds like a story of Tex going on an adventure of asskicking and action, with Church being dragged into it because he's the Alpha (or Epsilon). The latter sounds like a story of Tex and Church going on what might be a relatively sane trip, if Caboose hadn't jumped in; they might spend the rest of the story getting rid of him, only for him to come back every time, eagerly awaiting the rest of the adventure. Hilarity ensues.
So, feel free to play with the Phrase column and see what else you can come up with! You can even play with the scenes you wrote in your post.Perhaps you can make a third character say the line. Or perhaps every character says it at some point. There are way more possibilities than the mathematical number of combinations on this chart.

Personally, I want to see someone writing about Donut trapped in a closet with Wash. Or the Meta. Although it would be more like "X gets trapped with Donut and must endure being stuck with Donut" rather than the other way around

alphabetsoup314 In reply to TheMightyMeta [2011-07-14 02:48:47 +0000 UTC]
Okay. Prepare for slightly long-winded explanation.
So you can either pick a combination manually or randomly.
If you were to pick manually, you can choose whatever combination sounds interesting to you.
[1] First, you pick two characters. So say you want to write a story about Tex and Church. You can pick Tex as the first character and Church as the second character, or you can do it the other way around if you want. Just make sure to remember which character was first.
[2] Next, you choose a scenario. So say you chose 'go on a crazy adventure'. You would be writing a story about Tex and Church going on a crazy adventure together. It does not matter which character you chose first in this case. Now let's say you chose '1 plays a prank on 2' instead. In this case, the order in which you chose characters DOES matter. If you chose Tex first, then you would be writing a story about Tex playing a prank on Church. If you chose Church first, then you would be writing a story about Church playing a prank on Tex. Though both cases involve the same scenario, they have very different results because of character order. I imagine Tex playing a prank on Church would end in Church screaming like a girl, while Church playing a prank on Tex would end in Church getting his ass kicked. This is the reason why I decided to make character order important in some cases, so that people can play around with character interactions
[3] (This step is optional, you can just skip it and get to writing your story if you prefer) You can also choose a phrase. It can be said by one of the chosen characters if you wish, though it doesn't have to be. It can be said by anybody in the story. So let's go with the example of Tex and Church going on a crazy adventure. Say you chose the phrase 'Where are we going?' The two examples I can think of off of the top of my head are (and you don't have to use either of these): Tex is trying to take Church off to some far flung place. As she drags Church into the car, he says, "What the hell are you doing? Where are we going?"
Tex and Church are trying to go off some place by themselves (bow chicka bow wow). Just as they are about to leave, Caboose jumps in the car with them and says, "Oh wow! I love roadtrips!... Where are we going?"
So really, the interpretations of any particular combo are endless
You can also choose combinations randomly for an extra challenge. You can do this with any method you want: pick numbers out of a hat, random number generator, 21-sided die (if such a thing existed), closing your eyes and pointing randomly at the screen, etc. This is why the numbers are there: to help you in your random choosing. You would choose 3 (or 4) random numbers. So using the link mentioned above the chart, I get 2, 1, 17, 3. So my items would be as follows:Tex
Church
Meet for the first time
"You had it coming."
By sheer coincidence, it is still a Tex and Church example You can always re-roll if a combo doesn't make sense (ie: you get Caboose twice), or if you don't like it, or if you just want to see what happens.
I hope that helped
