Story:

Was it ever that bad? Mattheo didn't really know. The only thing he knew for sure now was that this was not a good time.
He was in the Netherlands to compete. How many years had it been since he had first competed? He just didn't feel up to it. If Victor hadn't asked him for this big favor, since the rider who was supposed to compete had fallen ill, he would have stayed home.
Now he was sitting in Relic's guest stall. He was shaking all over. Mattheo took a deep breath - well.... As deep as he could, because it felt like someone was squeezing the air out of him. He had stopped competing five years ago because he had extreme problems with anxiety disorders as well as social contact. That's why his sister, Amalia Kjaargen, was warming up his horse.
He put his head on the back of his neck. Mattheo tried to think clearly, but he could only think of the judgmental looks of the others or the crowds. He hated both. They gave him a crushing feeling. As if he would sink and not be able to emerge. He could barely breathe properly. Should he just leave? Should he leave? Should he really get up now and run all the way? But he didn't want to disappoint Victor.
Victor knew about the circumstances and also about the fact that he was strictly against competitions. After all, Victor had only asked him and Mattheo could not refuse.
"Mist...Mist...Mist...", he said in his native language. (german -> mist = shit)
He was startled when he suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and could see a young woman. She had wavy brown hair. She smiled at him.
"Hey, I'm Dolores, Dolores Moore. Are you okay?",
Mattheo jumped back a little.
"P-please d-don't t-touch.", he had to take a breath. "M-Mattheo..... Mattheo K-Kjaargen," he spat out shortly.
"Well Mattheo, is there anything I can do to help?" she asked in a calm tone of voice.
He shook his head. She looked at him thoughtfully.
"Wait... Where's your horse?" she then asked.
He looked down at his hands. He played nervously with his fingers.
"M-my sister ... r-rides him warm..." he said. His voice broke.
Dolores was still looking at him.
"You here. Take a deep breath in and then exhale. Repeat a few times okay?" she smiled at him.
He did what she said. He tried to focus only on himself as he did so.
"Th-thank you..."
She noticed that Mattheo never looked directly at her. He avoided the glances of others.
Then they both heard the sound of hooves.
"Matt? I warmed Relic up!", A moment later they both saw Amalia in the doorway. In her hand she held the reins of his horse. This one neighed briefly. Dolores stood up, smiled again at Mattheo and nodded to Amalia. Then she left.
Amalia looked after her.
"Are you all right?" she asked, letting Relic go.
Mattheo nodded and stroked Relic's head as he walked to him. He rested his forehead against his head.
"We can do this, right?" he asked his horse. The latter snorted in agreement.
Mattheo stood up with soft knees and took the reins.
His hands were still shaking slightly. He hoped that he would get through it all.
