Description
This is a commission I did for a subscription box called "Enchanted Book Box". The character here is Zoey Redbird and she's the main character of the House of Night novel series. It was so much fun working on her! Hope you like itΒ ΒRelated content

Amazing work Al! I love the markings she has (tattoos?) and this really drew me into this piece. Wonderful back lighting, the flow shown in her hair, and conveying that intense stare. This is really, really beautiful! Great work!

Thank you very much! And I'm not sure whether they are tattoos or markings that just appeared on her face..

Yes thereβs definitely some magic going on ^^ thank you! Lifeβs good actually! Got a lot to do at work but I try to make room for art as often as possible. Yesterday I think I had my first breakthrough in photoshop.. something suddenly clicked how are you doing?

You are most welcome .Β Glad to hear it
. Was the breakthrough when you were working on this piece or something else? I'm ok for the most part. Family is visiting this month so that's something to look forward to
. Plus, going to do some coloring of a fellow deviants lineart at some point this month. So that's something
.

No no, this was done in Procreate! After the Jade picture I didn't publish anything I made in Photoshop. I didn't practice that much since I took on 2 commissions which I had to do in Procreate (due to my incompetence in PS ^^) The thing is I just realized the importance of pen pressure in PS. In Procreate it's never been important for me since I thought it didn't really do much as far as blending is concerned...but for PS it is the key to blending.. so I readjusted my pen pressure settings and now it's working quite well. I still don't have as much control as I have in Procreate but I'm getting there. And slowly I'm realizing why people think the missing Flow setting in Procreate is such a bummer. I hope I'll be posting a portrait completely made in PS soon
And that's cool that you're going to color someone's lineart! I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Ah, thanks for the clarification . So you'll be working a bit more with Photoshop? Seeing how there are some recent breakthroughs in graphic tablet technology, I wonder if pressure sensitivity will only be calibrated by the device itself, or maybe they won't need to set the sensitivity at all, rather just go off the pressure you give naturally. I'm not sure if I showed you this, but this device has some interesting features that I personally consider a breakthrough, but it's not like I'm that knowledgeable in the area. If I already showed you this, sorry

Hopefully it'll be up to par and won't take too long to complete .

Yes I definitely want to move my main work to Photoshop. Procreate's been great, but I'm ready to take the next step. And yes, I'm also excited regarding the future of graphic tablets. And I didn't know this paper like thingy! Are you going to buy it? I think it looks great, but I don't really take notes that often...would you be able to use it a lot?

AnonTheDarkOne In reply to alrun-art [2019-01-11 21:51:53 +0000 UTC]
You're most definitely ready . I would love to buy one, but it's around $600 without a discount so quite unlikely at the moment. I mean one can use it as a note taking device, but the main reason I want it is for drawing. Not sure how great it is for drawing besides sketching, but I think I could still use it even at that point. I don't mind coloring with a mouse if I have to. I know that somewhat defeats the purpose, but still
. Going off the video, it seems that a person can use it on one charge for up to a week. That's wild right? What kind of battery are they using right? XD

She looks so pretty, i love the wild hair look, the light and glow from behind her, the markings on her face look delicate and well done, the lighting on her face looks fabulous as well as her nose and lips, and well, those eyes too! stunning!
