Description
Basically, the story behind this is the following:

The boy lives in a terrible 'headspace', where his inner demons make him suffer all of the time for no reason other than to make him do so. One day, the girl finds a way into his headspace and decides she wants to free him from his headspace. The demons in his headspace began to torture him more and more (thus the increase in bruises/etc) because he was hanging out with and becoming attached to this girl, until one day he realised he had fallen in love with the girl.
That night, the boy decided to let the girl tke him away from the torturous headspace for good, and he was finally free of the demons.

Basically, he fell in love and became happy, thus him escaping the headspace.
