Description Oh man, has it been way too long, or has it been way too long?

I never actually did a decent picture of Coder-Jolly, not counting the cuties, except one of him as a human... so here you go.

I am currently in a real Banjo-Kazooie mood thanks to ~botttles98 and his persuasive ponies. [link] Oh man, remember when Banjo-Kazooie games were good and fun and clever? I do too, the last one was called Nuts & Bolts

Your picture makes me wish I had a 360 so I could play Nut & Bolts. 3: Even if it's different, I'm willing to try it out- plus I already know the soundtrack is awesome! Is this the same Jolly from Banjo-Tooie that danced on the sideboard when you rescued his partner? xD

That's really encouraging to hear! It seems to me that too many people judge the game without having played it at all. Opinion bandwagons are easy to generate on the internet, especially when you see such hate for N&B everywhere Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie are brought up with nostalgic warmth, from forums to Youtube... but I think a lot of it is baseless- just spread from person to person, who have never actually played the game, but just distrust what is different.

The soundtrack IS awesome, yes, and I am also quite fond of the overall art direction. Even if they ditched the whole googly-eyes-on-everything idea and it all looks rather different from the games I grew up with. I like how everything is patchy and seems, from the characters' clothes to the buildings, to have been messily slapped together and might fall apart at any instant; it reflects the game mechanic in rather a brilliant way. It's also a very funny game if you don't mind total disregard for the fourth wall.

And yes, the one and only. Although a lot can change in eight years, and somehow he went from being a bartender to a sketchy hobo black-market dealer extraordinaire. This is just the outfit he wears in one level.

I love how you made him look so dorky but still fabulous! XD I need to pop in Nuts and Bolts and play it again whenever I get the chance. (Damn you cosplay! Taking up my time working on you!)

I should draw "robot" Jolly (Joll*E as I call him) while I'm still in this mood. "I'll have my parts oiled to celebrate!"

the-Gitz In reply to Altermentality [2011-07-08 23:03:04 +0000 UTC]

Joll*E doesn't have permission to celebrate! Bitch needs to get back to serving tea and crumpets and enduring Humba's romantic mix tapes! >:C

But yes! Robot!Jolly would be so awesome to see! There's not enough of him.

Jolly is the best and you draw him the best
And the composition for this picture is really good, I'm tempted to use it as a desktop background... actually, would that be okay if I did? :3
(Also, yay, fellow Nuts&Bolts lover!)

I almost forgot about him and his fabulous outfits. : D

Haha, go right ahead, I would be honored!

Thank you! I'm glad you like the composition because I had the hardest time deciding what to do.

Hell yeah! It's not as good as the originals, but I still love that game...

Which game is he from?

He's from the Banjo-Kazooie series, this particular persona being from Nuts & Bolts (the characters take on a number of personas in that game). But he was introduced in Banjo-Tooie. I seem to remember you saying you tried N&B and didn't like it, but I think you would really enjoy the old N64 games because they are mega different and 80% of old-school fans hate Nuts & Bolts anyway (I'm in the 20%)...

Professor-Fox In reply to Altermentality [2011-07-09 13:17:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. Actually, I've never played N&B. I remember playing the original Banjo Kazooie for N64 and not really liking it. It's been FOREVER since I played it though, so I can't say for sure whether or not I still feel the same way. I'll have to try it again sometime ^_^

Oops, I guess I got you mixed up or misunderstood or something Well yeah, might as well give it a try again if you ever get the chance, but if you don't like it you don't like it and I'm not going to hate you. You might like the sequel better, though. I do. I remember you saying you liked the latter Jak games even though they were a lot darker, right? (I'm right about that at least, aren't I? Eheh) Banjo-Tooie is somewhat like that as compared to its predecessor, it starts out with a main character dying and another getting turned into a zombie and there's destruction and cute little things have died >_> And overall the game has a darker aspect, still goofy but tending towards more black humor. And the game is more expansive and complicated, and takes place on a sweet fantasy island of its own rather than the SM64-esque lair with magical level portals...

Yes, I did like Jak 2 and 3 better than the original ^_^ And now that you mention it, I do remember the beginning of Banjo-Tooie where Bottles the mole gets killed. I didn't play much at all after the opening cinematic though, so I don't know I'll have to try it too.

Well the whole point of that statement was that I like Nuts & Bolts, but you are certainly right. Of course, my 360 red-ringed but you know what still works as well as it ever did? My N64

oh yes, Nintendo DOES make sturdy things. I read sometimes, as half a joke, that they made their stuff out of unbreakable Nintendium.

A Game Boy survived a BOMBING.

Ahaha, oh you.

This is awesome! ...With all the Donkey Kong Country I've been playing, I've been dieing to get back into Banjo Kazooie. ...Which just means more Jolly art for you weirdos!

Yeah, you can't go anywhere on the internets were Banjo-Kazooie is brought up without people being like "I REMEMBER WHEN BANJO GAMES DIDN'T SUCK" and I'm like "ME TOO CUZ IT'S NOW." Haters gonna hate but lovers gonna love.

Thanks!

I've actually never played Nuts and Bolts, but I've seen cut scenes on youtube and the comedy is still there. So, yeah. I'm not sure why people get all butthurt about it, esp if they've never played the game.

(BTW GET ONLINE MORE <3)

It's fun too. Far from perfect - the challenges can be really frustrating and the mechanics feel kinda broken sometimes, and while there were a few excellent tasks that really stood out, Rare relied too much on fetch quests and races. But overall I loved that you could use your creativity to solve problems, and build and alter your vehicles to find what suited you best. And making vehicles for the hell of it was great fun, I just wish there were more coloring options and less of a part limitation. Rare had some great ideas, just couldn't implement them as well as they deserved. But I applaud them for trying something new and I enjoyed what they had to offer. I can understand why people get butthurt because it's so different from the originals, and flawed at that - but I wish people could enjoy what is there. Anyway I wish people would shut up about it, it's been like three years now and Rare is now a shell of its former self with no art department and reduced to making Kinect's answers to Wii shovelware so THERE, ARE YOU HATERS HAPPY now they've got their "comeuppance"? Ugh...

Butyeah my favorite parts were the art and the music. And the humor. And the whole premise, believe it or not, I just loved how flagrantly it took the Fourth Wall and smashed it into dust.
