Description This is for the OC Remix community fanart contest I just joined the forums recently to get feedback on my music, but I'd also like to contribute in something that I'm much more experienced in, and comes much more naturally!

The theme for this month is "babies", and combined with the Earthworm Jim kick I've been on for a while now, you get, well, this. I've been wanting to draw some more of the villains for a long time, but I never expected it to be like this. So here we have a few of Jim's worst enemies encountering an earthworm (is it him?) for the first time.

Evil the Kitten is curious about this string that moves of its own will, and wants to figure out how to play with it in a manner that tortures it but keeps it alive.
Little Princess Slug-for-a-Butt is repulsed by the slimy creature (you see? It's ironic!).
Bob the Not-So-Dangerous Guppy instinctively wants to have it for lunch.
Psy-Chick just wants to see it dead, and to eat it before Bob does.

So what is this, exactly, and why are these terrible children all convened? One of Professor Monkey-for-a-Head's experiments gone wrong, reverting them all into infants? Or just a cute what-if image? I'll go with the last one.

Silly as it is, it's also completely appropriate that I draw these characters, as I grew up with them and they're roughly as old as I am. Also, playing with the idea here that while everyone (including myself) likes to idealize childhood as the age of innocence, kids are pretty brutal and selfish too. You remember, don't you?

As for style, tried to keep this one simple and somewhat childish looking, with that torn-paper feel I've been rather fond of lately.

Earthworm Jim/characters (c) Doug TenNapel, Shiny Entertainment... I dunno, who does own them these days? Not me.

Title is an homage to the MGMT I was listening to when I was drawing this, SO MUCH MGMT and Of Montreal and Psycrow's theme a few times

Enjoy!

You're welcome!
By the way, what program do you use to draw?

Photoshop CS2 for most things. Sometimes I use Flash or Inkscape (a free vector program).

Thanks!

I used a rough paper texture on top with the "multiply" layer option, and worked with a rough brush under that. I was trying to make it all look like crayon, chalk, or a construction paper collage, those kinds of fun stuff we use when we're making crafts as children

Ooh, nice variety of color you have here, you've managed to combine it rather well with the dark, grungy, futuristic atmosphere that the Earthworm Jim series is known for. This piece also appears to have a very good amount of detail; I can clearly see the little smile on the little guppy in the bowl back there. This does indeed pose a feeling of childishness about it, it reminds me of the days long lost, that age where the world seemed so mystical, aglow with the light of curiosity, now replaced with the darker, solemn ambiance of maturity. Btw, did you notice that I started an open discussion in my journal? I plan to open at least one discussion a month, so there's plenty of time to think up creative, thoughtful opinions on the well thought topics. This month's topic is about a certain owl, that we all remember for extraordinarily long rants, not too different from myself actually.

Thank you very much! I'm glad to have someone who thinks so deeply about my pictures, as I do put a lot of thought into them myself.

As for the discussion, I would join in but it's been so long since I've played OoT, I wouldn't know what I was talking about

Why thank you, I put a fair amount of thought into my opinions before submitting them.

Oh yes, it's a shame that not all of us can possess a photographic memory, it would've been a great discussion, if anything, could you possibly spread word of it? As you know, very few individuals are watching my account, which means almost no traffic, which in effect means no patrons for the open discussions. I'd be simply ecstatic if someone did show up.

I do possess quite a good memory, especially for names, but it's been years and in order to have a really good discussion I'd need to either have played it recently, or do some wiki research, which to be honest I'm a little too busy for at the moment, especially if I want to keep drawing and making music But yes, I need to make a new journal anyway, and I'll spread the word about your discussions.

My apologizes if I offended you by that comment, when my fingers are flying across the keyboard, I sometimes find myself lost in the rhythm and overlook the smaller details, either benevolent or harmful. But I think it's great that you are composing new songs, they sound terrific, they really do, and thanks much for being kind enough to spread word of my discussions.

Oh no, don't worry about it!

Yeah, I'm getting much better with the help of the OCR community. On a completely related note to this picture, you really must hear my Psycrow theme when it's finished... I posted it on YouTube a while back, but I'm making it so much better now... I might even submit it and see what happens, who knows?
