Kicked him so hard it knocked his tail off, apparently! (Seriously, he lost it after that...)

This made K. Rool so sad that he has not appeared in a console DK game since.

Am I the only one who thinks this would be a hilarious boss in Punch Out?

That would be excellent! If only K. Rool would show up in a game again. Period.

Aww So many memories! And I still play now!
That is, it was hard to beat! :'D I loved the cutscenes with Kritters especially at the end with Candy Kong and Funky Kong! xD
Cranky Kong that was very funny too! XDDD
In short, the music is super long but I love it, I'm eager to hear this music remixed in new album by the group of OverClocked ReMix
Superb drawing anyway!

We never got to see the Kremlings in the audience. I always imagined the Kremling dislike K. Rool but do their best to please him out of fear. So they were cheering but looked nervous and insincere. But that's just me. The picture captures the essences of that point in the game really well! I love how accurate all the colors and attention to detail everything is.

That's definitely plausible. As for myself, I always imagined that the Kremlings once enthusiastically supported their king, but after the whole debacle where K. Rool's schemes ended up DESTRYONG THEIR HOMELAND in DKC2, most of them grew to hate him. That's why he headed up to the Northern Kremisphere to recruit some of his estranged brethren there. Then later, once he hatched his idea to get even with the Kongs by wiping out THEIR island, he was able to piece together an army from anyone who still supported him. So those in the audience would be those who still believed in him. The long, long absence of Kremlings being in a major DK game, while it makes me sad, at least makes sense in my head, because after yet another failure in DK64, I think K. Rool would find it very hard to gather an army.

Well in DK64 the Klaptraps seem to be very loyal while many of his other minions are either afraid or stupid. In one cutscene Kasplat tried to run out on him, and K. Rool sicked his giant Klaptrap on him!

True, but I always saw that specific Kasplat as an exception rather than the norm. And that giant Klaptrap was AWESOME
Of course the Klaptraps are loyal though - in DK64 at least, they are little more than dogs, it seems.

I hope someday to see the return of the Kremlings using Klaptraps on leashes hahaha!

Woah, great job on this. I love the perspective and layout of the image - having the clear images of the cheering crowd at the front and the vague shapes/colours in the background really work to build the arena atmosphere, as well as keeping your eye focussed. Nice work!

And on the right, K. Rool has to fight The Great Gonzales!
...sorry. It's just the layout of the picture makes me think of the Thousand Year Door battle screen. XD
Another excellent picture in your DK64 series. I like the set up of this picture a lot and the fact that you included several of the minions in the rows. I'm a little disturbed by the one minion hidden behind the Kasplat that's just staring at the viewer. Watching us, reading our minds...

Oh! That's supposed to be Kosha's club, haha. That's not an eye, it's a spike pointing right at the viewer. Because yeah. That would be pretty creepy.

dunno about you, but I thought of the whole boxing match as a deliberate mockery of the final boss custom. i mean, in the beginning of the game, he was all menacing, wanting to blow up the island because he could, at the end, lamps were dropped on his head, he was tickled in the fingers, and slipped on bananas?? it's like #villain decay# instantly set in just so you could have a chance!
compare THAT to the DKC2 final boss. that was frightening to the end.

I always thought it was a bit silly, yes, what with K. Rool actually being quite badass in this game and then the final fight being so goofy. But I never thought of it being deliberately parodical. Perhaps it was... I'd like to think so, now! Rare was pretty smart and has always liked to poke fun at themselves and gaming conventions in general, after all!

Ah, memories...
It took me forever to finish this game. I was really bad at the part that required you to beat the original Donkey Kong... twice.

Gah no kidding. That was just really, REALLY cruel on Rare's part. It's also why Victor has stopped on his playthrough of the game, although he insists that the most annoying part is how every time you lose, you get kicked out of the arcade game and have to watch DK pull the lever again. Which is pretty bad, yeah.
