Description
A while back, I had the idea of Bleck's crew being their own "Elite Four" (with Bleck as the champion) and decided to make the old-school sprites (based on the Gameboy Pokemon games) to match. Since then, I've decided to work through requests and my own whims to make a lot of other Paper Mario characters in this style. I've never really done pixel art, so it's been a lot of fun and I've learned so much! But right now I'm going to rest on this series for now and move onto something else.Almost all of these fit within the size constraints of the original Pokemon sprites, but I wasn't holding myself to the same standards on some of the earlier ones, so they might be a wee bit too wide or tall.

Sorry for the late response! I worked on this over several weeks. I would say each individual took me about an hour on average, from the planning to my perfectionist nitpicking. Some, of course, were easier and some were harder. I think Fracktail was the most intensive.

Still really love all of these overall! More than just it being your first run with pixel art, I really admire how you considered the design "quirks" of the original Red & Blue (with a bit of Green?) designs and used them to influence the sprites here. In a way, I think that was a much better decision than going with another Pokemon game like Yellow or Gold & Silver, where they have more polished sprites; being associated with Red & Blue specifically, I think it gives these sprites a LOT more identity.

Yes, thanks so much for noticing! The earlier sprites are so... adorably goofy. I really do like a lot of them more than the polished stuff that came later; the latter look more "professional" but also more rigid. It was also, conveniently, easier to imitate this style for an amateur such as myself.

Ooh, it's really clever that you sorted these by what game the character first appeared in.
There's so many fun little touches in this, like all the various 8-bit facial expressions on the characters, and just how well everyone is portrayed in here.

Thanks! It was mainly because I wanted to make sure I had a fairly even amount for ALL THREE Paper Mario games. I did have to direct requests a little bit, as initially I was mostly getting them for TTYD, the fan favorite.
Yes, I'm still not over the idea of Chuck and Vanna showing up on various routes for pair battles. Chuck uses bug type and Vanna uses psychic. If you win that, AND their trivia question, you get a prize!
